Job Description:
Title: JKPC Community Preschool Director
Accountability: Under the Lordship of Jesus Christ the Preschool Director reports directly to the Preschool Ministry Team and is accountable to the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff and Session of the John Knox Presbyterian Church. An active elder is assigned to participate on the Preschool Ministry Team. The Director is evaluated by the JKPC Personnel Committee in collaboration with the Preschool Ministry Team.
Position Objective: Overall responsibility for the total preschool mission, including staff, facility and the nurturing of the children. Support preschool philosophy as a Faith-based Preschool with the Thematic approach to Early Learning Education.
Responsibilities:
Program:
o Ensure that the environment and Thematic Program is in keeping with the mission, vision, values, aspirations and goals of the preschool and JKPC.
o Plan, implement, evaluate and update to meet the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, social and creative needs according to the developmental levels of the children.
o Stimulate staff with new ideas and provide resources and instructional materials for the staff and preschool.
o Act as a gateway into the lives of the families of children who attend the preschool by developing avenues of sharing the gospel through the eyes of a child, including children and families in all Preschool sponsored programs.
o Develop and maintain a parent newsletter, parent handbook and corresponding database.
o Develop a chapel program for students, observing special holy days and dates.
Staff Supervision
o Recruit, hire, train and provide oversight to the staff in a way that glorifies God and satisfies all state and local requirements.
o Develop a conduct staff orientation, covering the policies and procedure and annual calendar. Maintain personnel files and a staff handbook.
o Provide general teacher support, encourage teacher input, assist in difficult situations, behavior management and conflict resolution.
o Determine staffing needs on the basis of enrollment.
o Provide for substitute personnel as needed, acting in this role as necessary.
o Meet with the staff monthly for prayer and calendar planning time.
Administration
o Attend monthly Ministry Team meetings and meet as required with the Preschool Ministries Elder.
o To be the primary contact and representative on publicity and public relations.
o Be responsible for all aspects relating to enrollment and parent orientation.
o Interface with other JKPC staff as needed in matters related to the overall function of the Preschool and other ministries.
o Prepare and coordinate fundraising opportunities, manage financial duties, income and expense reports, and payroll staffing hours.
o Development of the annual budget; plan and authorizing expenditures consistent with financial parameters.
o Recommend tuition and fee adjustment with the approval of the Preschool Ministry Team.
o Order inventory and maintain all supplies and equipment safety.
o Work with custodial staff to insure a safe, clean and attractive physical environment.
o Design and maintain a clear plan for evacuation and emergency preparedness.
o Other duties as assigned to the Thematic program.

o Attend and provide opportunities for staff participation in professional workshops and seminars.
o Keep abreast of educational issues, concerns, developments and funding opportunities.
o Stay abreast of policies and practices associated with maintaining a safe and secure environment.
Qualifications:
o Committed to a life of personal and corporate relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
o A love for children as Gods uniquely created individuals.
o An ability to work well with staff, elected leadership, parents and community.
o To share in the overall mission, vision and values of JKPC
o BA in education or qualified in early childhood learning and educational experiences.
o Possess communication and people skills to further the vision and aspirations of the preschool
o Fulfill all required reference and background checks as stipulated by the state of Washington.
