GENERAL SUMMARY: The Environmental Specialist I will maintain a safe and clean environment for the residents, their families, and the CRISTA employees that we serve. This position will perform routine duties including: cleaning, disposing of trash and providing supplies. This is an entry level position.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: (Responsibilities, Accountabilities, and Competencies; May not include all duties of this job)

  1. Daily clean, disinfect, empty garbage and maintain supplies for resident rooms/apartments, common areas, restrooms, Environmental Specialist closets and equipment in compliance with policies, procedures and standards established by CRISTA and the Environmental Supervisor.
  2. Properly clean up body secretions/bio-hazardous waste.
  3. Handle various cleaning chemicals in a safe and effective manner and maintain awareness of MSDS information.
  4. Monitor assigned areas and clean, disinfect and clear area of unsafe or broken materials.
  5. Report unsafe, unclean, or broken materials that you are unable to clear to the Environmental Supervisor or Person-in-Charge.
  6. Properly use and take care of equipment.
  7. Attend meetings, classes and receive training as assigned by the Environmental Supervisor.
  8. Follow Residents’ Rights policies and HIPAA.
  9. Follow procedures outlined in the employee’s handbook.
  10. Use equipment (ladder, cart, etc.) in a safe manner, when required.
  11. Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, and residents.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

Christian Commitment: Has a personal faith in Christ and the desire to demonstrate Christ-likeness.

  • Come to work as scheduled and demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
  • Read, write, communicate in and interpret English at a functional level (i.e.: read and comprehend usage instructions for cleaning products and follow accurately, verbally communicate with clarity, understand and explain information to our residents).
  • Interact with a wide variety of people, particularly the elderly and their family members.
  • Ability to solve problems and work independently.
  • Ability to operate equipment.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at the same time and able to maintain flexibility and prioritize emergent, urgent and routine needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, and residents.
