Word Alive Church & Great Start Preschool

Position Summary:

The Children’s Director will be responsible for the ongoing operation and ministry of the Word Alive Church children’s ministry program and Great Start Preschool & Daycare’s daily operation and outreach.   This is a full time position with 40 to 45 hours and will require you to become a staff member of the church and attend Sunday services at Word Alive and weekly staff meetings.

Must be a self-starter, have good leadership skills and be a problem solver.  The right candidate will be flexible, take initiative and be well rounded with outstanding interpersonal skills.  She must be able to manage and schedule staff and volunteers for classes, as well as plan and coordinate city wide events twice a year. 

The job description is two-fold and will be broken up by Great Start Preschool responsibilities and Word Alive Church responsibilities.  Keep in mind that Great Start Preschool and Word Alive Church operate in the same building, and are both overseen by the Senior Pastor of Word Alive Church.

Note:   Job provides:  Paid vacations, insurance coverage, and holidays off, equal time off for camps

  

Great Start Preschool Responsibilities:

  1. Manages Physical Facility:
  • Oversees compliance with state regulation and implements any new regulations regarding the care of children and the facility
  • Oversees the management of the on-site petting zoo
  • Reports the need of facility repairs to the appropriate person
  • Orders and documents supplies for the facility

 

  1. Manages Students & Families:
  • Oversees the spiritual, intellectual and emotional development of children attending Great Start Preschool
  • Recruits, sells and enrolls new students and families into Great Start Preschool
  • Collects tuition and ensures tuition is paid in a timely manner
  • Coordinates families in need with pastoral counseling provided through Word Alive Church
  • Invites and encourages families from Great Start to attend Word Alive Church activities and services
  • Create and circulate a monthly newsletter for parents to be delivered both via email and hard copy

 

 

 

  1. Manages Teachers & Volunteers:
  • Implements the Conscious Discipline Classroom Management system and trains Great Start teachers in Conscious Discipline
  • Implements and supervises staff members in all regards, especially in the area of company policies and procedures
  • Provides curriculum for each class and ensures each teacher is providing instruction that is developmentally appropriate and enriching
  • Plans and coordinates a separate Summer and Fall program for students
  • Provides ongoing development and training for teachers both individually and as a group
  • Coordinates teacher schedules and ensures all classes are covered according to state regulation
  • Maintains an updated substitute teacher list
  • Supervises opening and closing staff and to ensure building is opened properly and closed securely at the end of each day
  • Recruits and interviews new teachers
  • Coordinates weekly or bi-weekly chapel services for students
  • Works with teachers, staff and the Senior Pastor to coordinate city-wide events including but not limited to the Gilbert Days Parade, Fall Festivals, Food Truck Nights.
  • Teaches or coordinates the teaching of songs, dances, skits, plays, or performances to the children for performances at the above noted events 

 

  1. Communicates with the Senior Pastor:
  • Keeps the Senior Pastor informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety with preschoolers and or issue with unsatisfied or upset parents
  • Immediately tell the Senior Pastor of any concerns about the physical or emotional abuse of children before contacting any authorities
  • Be open to receiving guidance and instruction from the Senior Pastor regarding opportunities for growth or change

Word Alive Church Responsibilities:

  1. Oversees the Children’s Department of Word Alive Church
  • Oversee the spiritual growth and development of children in the church
  • Develops or purchases curriculum for weekly Sunday services
  • Teaches and ministers to the children during Sunday services
  • Works with the Senior Pastor in planning special children’s events
  • Interfaces with parents in regards to children’s needs or problems
  • Recruits and develops volunteers for helping in children’s church, VBS and camp retreats
  • Attends all church services and special meetings and coordinates child care for said meetings
  • Recruits and trains volunteers for the Children’s ministry
  • The Word Alive Church Sunday hours requirements are approximately 9am – 12pm

Requirements:  

  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft is needed
  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred, or 5 years experience working with children in a class room or church environment
  • Bookkeeping experience is preferred but will train
  • Certification or willingness to obtain a certification in CPR/First Aid certification
  • A well-developed philosophy on the education of young children, which parallels with the educational philosophy of Great Start Preschool
  • Willingness to attend seminars, and complete workbooks and online training towards continuing education
  • Must be a born again Christian living a Christ-centered life treating people with dignity, respect, compassion and integrity
  • Must agree to Word Alive Church’s statement of faith
  • Must possess a servant’s heart towards children and parents
  • Arts training:  singing, acting, play production preferred but not required
  • Must be willing to train the ‘Conscience Discipline’ style of teaching (will train)
