Job Profile and Description: The Cottage Parents are the parental directors of the residential program at Salem. Their leadership is integral to the spiritual, social and physical health and well-being of those residents that are under their care at Salem. It is their responsibility to provide residents with strong parental role models while implementing a professional, Biblical based, family-style program that emphasizes skill acquisition and personal development, in a safe and secure environment in which to grow and learn. While on duty, the nature of this position requires that the employee(s) be available 24 hours a day. The Cottage Parents directly report to the Director of Residential Services.

Duties and Responsibilities
o Responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of a large family residence, including various paperwork,
domestic responsibilities, and other assigned duties including administrative directives.
o Work closely with other staff as a team in carrying out responsibilities while in the work place.
o Responsible for the management and oversight of a cottage of residents, totaling up to 16 residents.
o Enforce clear, consistent rules and daily routines for residents through the use of the level system.
o Supervise student daily tasks/activities, including chores, laundry, homework, meal times, chapel, recreation,
athletic games, etc.
o Responsible for teaching and developing social skills, self-help skills, academic skills and independent living
skills to the residents that are in their charge.
o Responsible for fostering the moral and spiritual development of each resident through a broad array of activities.
o Responsible for coordinating each resident's daily activities with the Director of Residential Services, the Biblical
Counselor and Case Manager regarding the overall treatment plan for each resident.
o Responsible for supporting each resident's vocational and educational goals as pertains to each treatment plan.
o Responsible for mentoring residents through personal, relational, and educational issues, utilizing a Scripture
based approach.
o Involved in treatment team meetings, discussing and giving input regarding treatment plans for each resident,
o Responsible for providing residents with the tools that they need to replace poor behavioral patterns with
redemptive patterns of living,
o Responsible for providing a firm, yet grace-based approach to mentoring, while daily living with residents,
o Need to engage in conflict resolution and crisis intervention and physical restraint, in extreme situations and
when absolutely necessary.
o Responsible for communicating with families of the resident as necessary, for the purpose of discussing their
overall progress.
o Responsible for maintaining a clean living standard in the cottage, holding residents accountable for that standard.
o Responsible for assisting in the planning of menus and the purchase of food for the household.
o Accurately complete all paperwork and submit it on time.
o Must be committed to the Mission, Core Values, and Vision of Salem4youth.

Education and Qualifications
o Bachelor's Degree preferred,
o Married couple required.
o Three years or more experience working with troubled youth or comparable environment preferred.
o Training and certification in crisis management required (will provide).
o Training and certification in CPR/First Aid training required (will provide).
o Ability to communicate, both verbally and through the written word in a professional manner.
