Job Type: Full-Time
We are a Christian therapeutic boarding school working with trouble teens and their families to see the student revived and the family restored. We are different than most therapeutic boarding schools in that we do not just address the needs of the student. We are a holistic program offering services to the entire family. Every parent is required to go through three months of Parent Coaching, and then Family Restoration throughout the duration of his or her child's stay with us. Additionally, each family is highly encouraged to participate in three months of Aftercare Coaching upon his or her teen's graduation from the program.
The Family Representative is one of the most important positions in our program. Family Restoration is one of the foundational principles of our program and, as such, needs the utmost attention by the most qualified individuals in order to maintain the integrity of this particular program element. The Family Representative picks up where the Parent Coach leaves off; establishing rapport and trust with the family. He or she is a direct-line contact for the parent to the child and the child to the parent. They are coach, mentor, advocate, and liaison between the family and the school. The role of the Family Representative is to be the “go-between” for the parent and child--mediating when necessary, and coaching on appropriate and effective methods of communication. In order to do so, the Family Representative must be able to have a strong therapeutic rapport with both the parent and child. Additionally, they need to be engaged in the milieu without being restricted to the floor, in order to address the immediate and pressing needs of the student and/or the family.
This is a full-time salaried position averaging 40-50 hours per week.
Potential candidates should possess the following qualities:
--Solid, traditional Christian faith, exercised and active on a daily basis.
--A heart to see teenagers lives transformed through the power of Jesus Christ.
--Strong interpersonal communication skills.
--An ability to be firm and direct with parents, while empathetic and compassionate to their needs.
--Strong mediation skills--the job entails being an advocate and mediator for both student and parent.
--Willingness to work non-traditional hours. The majority of this position takes place during late afternoon to mid-evening hours. Applicant must be flexible to work weekend hours as needed as well.
--Be a life long learner--our program is somewhat atypical of this particular industry and much personal study is required in order to be fully competent.
--The ability to have personal boundaries, work on personal issues outside of work, and the aptitude to be engaged without becoming emotionally immeshed with either student or parent.
