InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is seeking a Director of Human Resources to serve InterVarsity’s domestic and international ministries based at the National Service Center in Madison, WI to guide and manage the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the entire Fellowship.
With over 70 years in ministry, InterVarsity has stayed true to its core mission of building witnessing communities of students and faculty who grow in love for Christ and learn to serve Him in the world.
The ministry includes:
• Campus Ministry – 859 chapters on college campuses across the nation serving over 35,000 students and faculty.
• Missions – 40 staff serving on campuses in other nations, 750 students on short-term global mission projects annually, and 1,500 students serving in 25 U.S. cities on short-term urban projects.
• Urbana Student Missions Convention – 228,000 alumni over 22 conventions
• InterVarsity Press – 2,200,000 books sold annually
• Camps – Four retreat and training centers in New Hampshire, Michigan, Colorado and California collectively hosting more than 80,000 camper days each year.
• 2100 Productions – Multimedia arm that produces award-winning videos and graphics

The Director of Human Resources coordinates implementation of services, policies, and programs through a Human Resource staff of six individuals. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, s/he serves as an integral member of the National Service Center Operations Ministry Leadership Team, consisting of the Treasurer/Controller, Director of Information Technology, General Counsel, and Director of Support Services.
The Director of Human Resources will be filling a role vacated by the retirement of the previous director who successfully transitioned the department from what was essentially a personnel department into a more fully functioning, up to date and professional Human Resources Department. The new Director of Human Resources will capitalize on the momentum established and maintained by a dedicated and professional HR staff and will strive to take the Human Resource function to increasing levels of professionalism and performance by:
o Building strong and constructive relationships across and outside the organization
o Strengthening HR processes and systems to better support the Fellowship and its mission
o Contributing to and, where possible, strengthening our culture
o Demonstrating a unique set of HR skills across the Fellowship
o Leading, coaching, and developing the professional skills of HR team members
o Providing leadership that promotes the role of HR
o Annually affirm InterVarsity’s Statement of Faith
o Bachelor’s degree required – with business, HR, or Management emphasis preferred
o Previous campus ministry involvement preferred
o Professional Human Resources certification preferred
o Human Resources management required; 10 to 15 years management experience preferred
o Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources programs
o Experience in establishing and managing diversity programs, benchmarking, and training
o Experience in conflict resolution and mediation
o Excellent oral and written communication skills
o Ability to handle all matters in a confidential manner
o Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a diverse team environment
o Ability to work effectively with staff throughout the organization
o A working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint) is preferred
o Commitment to continued professional growth, acquired through publications, seminars, and conferences
