World Concern, an international humanitarian relief and development nonprofit, has recently retained our executive search firm to assist in locating a Donor Relations Director to lead the major gift effort and develop strategy for donor development growth.
World Concern, a part of the CRISTA family of seven vibrant Christian ministries, has approximately 1,000 employees that fulfill its mission to provide life, opportunity and hope to suffering people around the world through disaster response and development programs. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, World Concern helps by tackling the causes of poverty at its roots, aiming to lift individuals, families and entire communities out of extreme poverty with long-term solutions and hope for the future. When natural and man-made disasters strike, World Concern provides critical disaster response services. In 2010, the organization was providing services to more than 5,000,000 people in 24 countries.
Reporting to the President, the Donor Relations Director leads a staff of 8 and 35 volunteers in donor development, which currently generates approximately $5 million. Together with the President, the Director will establish major donor fundraising objectives and strategies consistent with World Concern’s overall goals. The successful candidate will have the focus of responsibilities to lead solicitation of gifts through individuals, churches, corporations, government grants, and foundations for a complex yet very dynamic group.
We seek a strategic individual with at least 10 years of business or nonprofit work experience, at least three of those years in a donor development role. The individual will have performed in leadership of a broad range of development activity sourcing funds through events, major donors and churches or affinity groups. The successful candidate will be experienced in providing leadership to an organization’s major donor programs, had responsibility for fundraising of $2 million or more, and have supervised others. It is expected the individual be proficient with computers and donor tracking software and have background raising gifts for a variety of programs. The selected person will be a strong, spiritual leader who shares the passion and conviction of CRISTA’s ministry.
