Job Description:
Congo - Strife in the Democratic Republic of Congo that began over 10 years ago and continues with no end in sight has created a humanitarian crisis in many parts of the country. Samaritan’s Purse is partnering with the World Food Program and working through local churches to meet urgent needs. Join us in this important work! Currently there is an opportunity for a Program Manager that will be responsible for the overall coordination and management of the Food Assistance Project. Incumbent will guide, train, direct and support project staff in implementing food assistance activities while also providing monitoring and evaluation tools to assess progress against agreed objectives. The Program Manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring timely, orderly and effective food distribution to beneficiaries according to WFP and statutory guidelines. Incumbent will be responsible for regular project reporting to the SP DRC Country office and to WFP/PAM and must ensure effective coordination of project activities with the relevant District local government departments. .


Management & Administration:

• Direct line management of all Food Assistance Project Supervisors, including performance review, ongoing direction, support, encouragement and correction
• Maintain updated records of Volunteer and Security staff work days and compile daily distribution team lists


• Establish clear strategy and direction for the Food Assistance Project n collaboration with the SP Congo Country Office
• Establish and ensure implementation of clear security protocol for distribution
• Ensure all project activities are conducted in accordance with the agreed work plan and proposal
• Ensure effective budget management at field level, including correct coding of expenses and adherence to SP’s financial management guidelines
• Submit regular Field Expense Reports to finance department in Bunia
• Authorize purchase requests submitted form project Logistician
• Coordinate all activities at district level with relevant local government, NGOs and WFP staff and community stake holders
• Develop and expand Food Assistance Project in accordance with agreed strategy and relevant opportunities at the field level
• Submit monthly reports to the Bunia Country Office and WFP, including progress against objectives, activity summary, issues faced, impact stories and photos


o Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
o English language skills required; French language proficiency or Swahili required
o Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
o Ability to cope with stress and live in basic conditions; flexibility and patience
o Previous experience working with Food Assistance and/or Agricultural programs and/or community based programming in Africa
o Strong verbal and written communication skills
o Ability to network and build relations with government civil society and community partners

Length of contract: 12 months
