Christian Union was founded in 2002 by Matt Bennett to develop the next generation of Christian leaders, positively transforming our culture – and the world. The ministry focuses on students at eight colleges because they are some of the most impactful, and yet secular, schools in our nation. A survey showed that 50% of the United States’ most influential leaders graduate from just these eight schools, of our nation’s 2,474 colleges.

These schools act as a secularizing power on society because 93% of students on these campuses have no Christian influence in their lives. For our culture to reflect the morality and teachings of Jesus Christ, our leaders must know God and reflect Christian values. However, if the most influential people in society do not know the Lord, we have no good reason to expect that our country should be anything but resolutely secular.

Christian Union’s ministry employs in-depth teaching and mentoring to produce dynamic, life-changing spiritual growth in future leaders. The ministry is distinctive in its intentional activity, exceptional caliber ministry workers, and emphasis of seeking God wholeheartedly.

The ministry so uniquely meets the needs of students at these influential schools that Christian Union can’t keep up with the demand. Each semester the ministry must turn students away from its Bible Courses because it does not have enough staff. Students have commented: “Coming to Princeton, I knew I would get a great liberal arts education. I never knew I would get a first class Christian education.” By 2020, Christian Union is trusting God to see 20% of the student body at these eight schools benefiting from a Christian ministry of teaching and discipleship.

Job Opportunity
Christian Union seeks an exceptional caliber professional to budget, plan and execute both large and small scale events throughout the country. Christian Union uses events to minister to students, staff and donors alike. Each year, Christian Union produces the DOXA Conference, a two day conference with both plenary and breakout sessions. This conference is attended by 300 and growing each year. We also produce the Ivy League Congress on Faith and Action every two to three years. This three day event brought over 400 students and business people together this past year in Cambridge, MA. In addition to the larger scale events, each year we host five to ten smaller group meetings throughout the country. We also expect to host at least one large benefit event and are also considering donor weekend trips and a trip to Israel.

The successful candidate will have significant experience is producing professional multi-day events with over 500 attendees. Christian Unions donors are primarily Christian Ivy League alumni so it is our desire to produce events with the polish and professionalism expected by professional business people.

In close collaboration with senior management and the conference directors, the event manager will be responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of event planning, budgeting, production and execution. The manager will be involved in events from the initial concept through to post event follow-up and review. The manager will develop, oversee and approve all expenses related to the budget and be responsible for bringing all events in on budget. The manager will also have full responsibility for negotiating and planning with hotels and other venues. The manager will also be responsible for soliciting, interacting and managing event speakers and other participants.

The event manager will report to Christian Union’s vice-president of operations.


• Strategy
o Work with senior management and the conference director, if there is one, to maximize attendance and achieving the goals of the conference experience.
o Provide insight and expertise into event management software, including the Raiser’s Edge Event Module.
o Perform post event surveys and review to maximize lessons learned and apply to future events

• Project Management
o Track all aspects of each event in Excel and/or Google docs, including
? A week by week work plan
? Budget
? Speakers and other participants
? Minute by minute event schedule
? Hotel and transportation plan
o Oversee the current and future event calendar to be sure that goals are achieved in contracting the right speakers for events.
o Achieve all aspects of the event work plan on or before the task deadline.

• Event Management
o Work with senior management, the conference director, and the venue personnel to be sure the event runs smoothly and any issues are seen and solved before they become problems.
o Coordinate and help manage other CU staff for maximum effectiveness.
o Coordinate the involvement of special program participants, including speakers, panelists, musicians and donors.

• Event Communications
o Foresee and assist in the development of event communications including pre-event promotion, event documents and programs, speaker and participant guidelines, transportation suggestions, post event evaluation forms and event signage.
o Work closely with senior management, the development communications team and IT manager to promote events via websites and emails.

• Reporting
Provide leadership with status reports, success measures and other forms of tracking deliverables.

• Miscellaneous Projects
As the calendar of events may be slow at times, the events manager may be asked to handle miscellaneous other project unrelated to events. The event manager will be expected to apply their project management skills to complete these projects. Current projects include the oversight of a video production.

• Travel requirements: Average of 2-3 days per month to plan events and 15-25 days a year to attend Christian Union events and training.

• Qualifications
o Love and zeal for Jesus Christ and a devotion to holiness
o Sincere enthusiasm for the mission of Christian Union
o Strong team player with the ability to manage and motivate teammates, who do not report to you, to meet schedules.
o 3-5 years proven success in all aspects of producing large scale professional events. Strong negotiating skills.
o Strong interpersonal skills in person and over the phone. Comfortable with college students and highly successful business people.
o Strong communications skills in person and in writing. Promotional writing and graphic eye are helpful.
o Understanding of best practices and trends in event production and management.
o Ability to manage and motivate others remotely.
o Ability to manage time well, multi-task, meet deadlines, and work with limited oversight to complete assignments. Goal and deadline oriented.
o Significant experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Education
o Bachelor’s Degree required.
o Masters degree or similar project or event management accreditation a plus.
