The controller position is accountable for the oversight of all accounting and financial reporting activities. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Basic functions include supervising all team finance members, including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and grant administration. This position will partner with the CFO, Human Resources (HR), Development, and Information Technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate Finance, HR, Development and IT functions. Also, this position will work with the Operating Committee, Budget and Finance Committee and the Board of Administration of the FMC-USA, as well as auditors to ensure that all financial policies and procedures are legal, ethical, and consistent as well as maintaining a clear understanding of the organization’s financial health.
Responsibilities include overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Individual will maintain the chart of accounts, coordinate all audit activity for timely completion of the audited financial statement, and issue monthly, quarterly and annual internal financial statements, analyze financial data and present financial reports, assist leadership in the annual budgeting process, manage organizational cash flow, prepare all federal, state and local annual filings, various reconciliations, adopt and maintain appropriate finance and reporting policies and procedures, as well as regularly review donor-restricted net assets and monitor debt levels.
A mature leader with 10+ years of responsible experience in accounting, finance and audit ideally in a nonprofit with multiple programs is desired. The individual should possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels. Excellent computer skills are needed in MS Office 2007, accounting software (Blackbaud, Financial Edge and Raisers Edge) and crystal report writing. A BA and CPA are required. BA, CPA, and MBA are preferred.
