Director of Operations
The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Chicago exists to express the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army through a safe, enriching and sacred environment where all individuals have access to opportunities to reach their physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. The Director of Operations provides direction and support to the operations, facility, business and program facets of The Salvation Army Kroc Center. This individual is responsible to make sure that the Kroc Center is used to its full capacity, aligned with the mission of The Salvation Army and that it is financially sound. The Director of Operations is directly responsible for the day to day operation and management of the Kroc center under the direction of the Senior Kroc Officer.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
1. As a key member of the operational and program team, ensure that the goals of the facility are accomplished. This includes high quality programming, sound fiscal management, mission driven success and a fully operational facility. In doing so will be responsible for:
a. Development and implementation of budgets.
i. Provide leadership in the development of fiscally sound programs.
b. Effective administration of Human Resources policies and practices.
c. Effective staff scheduling that provides appropriate service and coverage levels.
d. The implementation and enforcement of facility safety, Child Safety and maintenance policies.
2. Evaluate and direct venue/business to ensure compliance with Salvation Army policy and the RJKCCC mission while also optimizing financial and service performance.
a. Establish methods for quality control that evaluate work performed by staff to ensure consistent high quality Guest service.
3. Provide leadership and oversight to the day-to-day operational activities throughout the RJKCCC campus.
a. Work with on-site directors, discussing and resolving problems that occur.
b. Work with the operational and management team to accomplish problem-solving necessary for daily operational success of the Kroc Center
c. Work with staff on the overall marketing and promotion of the center.
d. Work with staff on customer service and staff training.
e. Work with staff on building maintenance/cleaning/safety and risk management.
4. In conjunction with the Senior Kroc Officer, ensure that the shared facility resources are allocated properly.
5. Meetings and Communication.
a. Meet regularly with the Senior Kroc Officer to coordinate operational issues.
b. Under the direction of the Senior Kroc Center Officer, meet regularly with the Kroc Center Officer for Program Development, Kroc Center Officer for Youth Development, Kroc Center Officer for Congregational Life, and the Development Director to participate in setting priorities and recommendations for the Kroc Center.
c. Meet regularly with the RJKCCC Leadership Team and Senior Kroc Officer to participate in setting priorities and recommendations for repairs, remodeling, and replacement of facilities and equipment.
d. Attend all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings
6. Review all contracts with vendors and professional service agreements, as well as contracts/agreements for long-term space rental and give appropriate recommendations to Kroc Senior Officer and normal Salvation Army approval channels.
7. The Facilities Management Department is managed in a manner that meets its objectives and assignments.
a. Provide for the development of operational manuals for each venue of the Center.
b. Ensure the purchase of equipment and supplies in compliance with budgetary considerations.
c. Advise in setting priorities and recommendations for repairs, remodeling, purchase of supplies and replacement of facilities and equipment.
8. The Business area is managed so that fiscally sound programs are developed, implemented and maintained within budgetary requirements.
a. Work with business team to implement, monitor and allocate facility resources according to the budget
b. Provide oversight and direction to the Center’s operational and business managers as to their responsibilities concerning budgeting, purchasing, human resource requirements and staffing needs, and business development
9. Provide leadership and direction to the Center’s program directors as to their responsibilities:
a. Program operation needs.
b. Purchasing, supply and equipment requirements.
c. Human Resource requirements and staffing needs.
d. Quality control.
e. Realizing high quality programs within a sound fiscal structure.
10. Leadership is provided for other Kroc Center projects as assigned.

The ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education.
An extensive knowledge of large community centers offering a wide variety of programs and services.
The knowledge of how to relate to children and adults in a manner that displays a sensitivity to their needs and a respect for their worth as individuals.
An understanding of children’s educational and recreational needs, and appropriate positive discipline methods.
An understanding of how to supervise staff and participants of varying education levels and diverse cultural backgrounds.
BA degree or higher in Business, Public Administration, Sports and Recreation Management or related field
Minimum of five years experience in:
• A position as General Manager, Facility Manager or Director of Operations and Business of a comprehensive recreational, sports, educational, athletic, and/or entertainment facility.
• The development and administration of facility budgets of at least $3 million.
This position reports to the Senior Kroc Officer.
This position directly supervises the Facility Director, Business Director, Education and Arts Director, Aquatics Director and Sports/Fitness Director.
This individual interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army. In these contacts, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.
As a member of the Leadership Team, this position’s duties are integral to the accomplishment of the missions and objectives of the RJKCCC. As a result the individual in this position must be clearly aligned with the mission of The Salvation Army, in a manner such that they can both articulate and advocate for the accomplishment of the Kroc Center’s mission and vision for the community.
