Our US-based client Edify, a nonprofit that provides small business loans for sustainable Christian schools in the developing world, has recently retained our executive search firm to assist in locating a Senior Vice President of Development to lead the organization’s development endeavors and expand efforts around the world.
Delivering key results, Edify provides affordable, private Christ-centered schools that offer the best alternative to the inefficient public schools of developing nations. In fact, Edify believes that low-cost private schools developing Christian character with academic excellence offers the greatest opportunity for profound and long-lasting transformation in the developing world. With the help of its financial partners, Edify comes alongside entrepreneurial educators, or “edupreneurs,” by providing capital for expanding classrooms, computer laboratories and other facilities, and business training to help increase access and quality of education for millions of impoverished children. These sustainable schools already exist; nationals founded them. The poor are already educating the poor! Edify provides academic resources and loans to these nationals to support what they are already doing for their communities. Students benefit from Christian curricula, entrepreneurship and technology education. In short, Edify works to end generational poverty through a quality education coupled with the moral foundation to ethically apply it.
Reporting to the CEO/Founder, initial responsibility will be for the organization’s overall development efforts with focus on building a dynamic Major Donor Program. The Senior Vice President will refine the value proposition message and develop collateral materials for presentations and proposals. The selected leader will expand efforts through research for other potential donor bases. Development work may encompass other channels, including grant proposals, donor mailings, and events. Future responsibilities include the growth and development of a national major donor team in the US. The new executive will have direct interaction with the Board of Directors to develop and support a culture of giving. This is an opportunity to join a team that is focused on high-growth in action. We seek an individual with at least 15+ years of fundraising or sales experience and 4+ years supervising others. The ideal candidate will have been in charge of a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, trusts, foundations, and corporations individually giving $25,000 or more annually. We seek an individual with experience in major donor development capable of fundraising in excess of $3 million annually. A Bachelor degree is expected. Training in donor development or sales work at the executive level is a plus. The selected individual will have an understanding and passion for the mission of Edify and a calling to actively engage others to support relief and development around the world.
Compensation is comparable to other nonprofits and includes a competitive benefits package. The location of this position is Southern California, with expected travel. This is an outstanding career opportunity supporting a growing international ministry.
