A long-held dream became a reality in October 2010, when Jill’s House, a 501(C)(3) non-profit Christian organization providing respite for families with children with intellectual disabilities, began serving its first children. Established in 2003, Jill’s House completed construction on a 42,000 sq. ft. facility in September 2010 to serve boys and girls, ages six through seventeen, without regard to race, religion, or ethnicity.
The mission of Jill’s House is to provide a safe haven to which parents can entrust their children with special needs. This allows parents a time of rest. Our staff includes child care specialists and qualified medical and administrative personnel. Jill’s House is located in the Greater Washington, DC area, and is currently an integrated auxiliary of McLean Bible Church. In support of the mission and needs of Jill’s House, the Board of Directors has endorsed a multi-year, comprehensive initiative to provide capital (building/endowment), annual (unrestricted/restricted), and operating (program/project) support from individuals, corporations and foundations.
The public nature of this comprehensive fundraising effort has added significant administrative and operational responsibilities within the development area of Jill’s House. While it has been the responsibility up to this point of the Jill’s House Director of Development to direct the coordination of all fundraising activities, the demands of the management and operational direction for fundraising will require additional staff over the next 12 months or so, as determined by the Vice President of Advancement.
Working closely with volunteer leadership, the Vice President of Advancement has operational responsibility for all major gift fundraising, and the coordination of associated volunteers and professional staff. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Vice President of Advancement reports directly to the President/Chief Executive Officer of Jill’s House. The salary for the Vice President of Advancement position is extremely competitive.
The principal responsibility of the Vice President of Advancement will be to plan, organize, implement, and direct the following:
1.Design and execute processes and strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and recognition of a currently untapped reservoir of funding prospects of $5,000+;
2.Provide staff leadership to all fundraising volunteers and committees;
3.Implement an effective prospect management system;
4.Draft, review and advise on fundraising and general communication materials for internal and external use, ensuring that materials are consistent with organizational strategy;
5.Provide regular reports to the President/Chief Executive Officer and others on the status of progress towards fundraising projections and stated institutional needs;
6.Ensure that all fundraising activities are thoroughly and effectively integrated into and coordinated with annual fundraising and external relations programs of Jill’s House and McLean Bible Church;
7.Work closely with the Board of Directors, including providing support for the creation of a Development Committee;
8.Develop strong outreach programs that engage a wide variety of constituencies in helping Jill’s House fulfill its mission and vision; and
9.Maintain professional affiliations and enhance professional growth by keeping abreast of latest trends in Advancement for the benefit of Jill’s House.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
1.Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising, including a track record of securing six- to seven-figure gifts.
2.Ability to be a passionate, pro-active spokesperson for the role Jill’s House plays in providing a supportive environment in the lives of children with special needs and their families.
3.Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
4.Ability to work effectively and sensitively as an Advancement partner with the Board, President/CEO, staff, donors, volunteers, and others.
5.Strong understanding of strategic fundraising methodologies, including ability to identify prospects and cultivate, solicit and steward donors of high wealth.
6.Ability to develop fundraising and budgeting plans, think creatively and strategically, and to manage multiple areas of activity simultaneously.
7.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience writing successful proposals, good computer skills, and working knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge.
8.A working style that is self-directed and organized.
9.Willingness to travel as necessary (likely ten percent).
10.Familiarity with fundraising for church-affiliated organizations will be a plus.
