Job Title: Director of Communications

Department: US Ministry Operations
Reports To: SVP of US Ministry Operations

Position Summary:
The Director of Communications has primary responsibility and authority for developing and recommending comprehensive short and long-range marketing strategies; coordination of internal and external communications, including public relations activities; leadership of brand-management strategies and activities with both internal and external constituencies; resource development through various mass-marketing activities; coordination of the development and production of support materials and services for other organizational departments and constituents; management direction and organization of the Communications Department and coordinating its efforts at strategic and tactical levels with other functions in the organization; and integration of innovative and creative approaches in all responsible functions.

Position Responsibilities: Through effective vision, leadership, and management direction with the Communications Department, the director will:
• Develop WorldVenture’s annual marketing plan, including strategic targets, donor development opportunities, and implementation of projects or programs consistent with the broad-scope plan
• Develop, implement, and manage staffing plans and operating budgets for the critical departmental functions of general public marketing for the ministry, as well as specific marketing support for missionaries, US Ministry and International Operations, Donor Development, and other internal departmental needs
• Ensure that multiple engagements are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner, with attention to high professional standards, including developing and maintaining effective process and project management standards to manage the department
• Act as a marketing consultant to missionaries, departmental and executive leaders, on topics such as website content, media relations, newsletters, supporting materials design, and market research; and assist others with needs regarding marketing project proposals, pricing, objectives, scope, and time schedules
• Develop and manage the WorldVenture brand proactively to ensure articulation of the desired image, position, ministry niche, and emotional appeal, and assure consistency throughout the organization, including all print and electronic materials such as letterhead, brochures, web content, media productions, and logo use
• Develop creative approaches to promote WorldVenture as a leading voice in missions and help provide public platforms for leadership and missionaries
• Provide editorial, design, production, and distribution direction for all publications
• Act as the organization’s primary representative with the media
• Create and implement website content and design to accomplish desired strategies, including on-line giving thrusts
• Provide oversight, technical assistance, and resource materials to help other departments in the marketing, communication, and positioning of their activities
• Serve as the key leader on the Creative Committee and serve as Chair to facilitate input from various constituencies regarding marketing strategy and direction

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• A minimum of five years of proven professional experience managing teams in a marketing, communications or advertising environment, preferably in a non-profit organization
• A minimum of three years experience in a management/supervisory role
• Well-developed project management and financial management skills
• A strong emphasis on strategic thinking, creative abilities, and a work style that blends well with the senior management team in a collaborative environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Well-developed computer skills, and design/web/media software experience (tools used departmentally include: Photoshop Extended, Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, DreamWeaver, Fireworks, Visual Studio Web Developer, Adobe Media Encoder, Final Cut, Flash, Acrobat Pro, Sound Booth, DVD Studio Pro, Color, Cinema Tools)

• Christian character that reflects and embodies the Christian values, beliefs and principles foundational to WorldVenture, and a willingness to subscribe to the eight-point doctrinal statement
• Service-oriented attitude of assisting and serving others
• A team player that displays humility and a learner’s attitude

Education or Formal Training:
A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience, is required

Work Environment/Physical Activities:
Office environment; some domestic and limited international travel
