Job Description
The Bowery Mission and Kids With A Promise seeks a strategic and creative Christian to lead the process of finding, cultivating, soliciting and thanking institutional donors (foundations, corporations, and public donors). Candidate will build upon more than 40 existing foundation relationships and develop new ones through personal visits, grant proposals, grant reports, and Annual Reports that effectively communicate organizational goals, needs and progress.

Requirements
Candidate should be an excellent writer with strong interpersonal skills. Candidate should be organized and able to meet deadlines. Fundraising and/or grantmaking experience is preferred. Competency in Microsoft Office is expected. Candidate should submit a writing sample along with his/her resume.

Job Summary
The Manager of Institutional Giving takes the lead on the strategy and structure of the Institutional Giving area, managing the system of finding, cultivating, soliciting and thanking institutional donors (foundations, corporations, and public funding sources) at The Bowery Mission & Kids With A Promise. The Manager achieves annual fundraising targets by strengthening institutional relationships and creating new ones.

The Manager identifies, investigates, and cultivates prospects in collaboration with the President, Director of Development and Development Team. The Manager will develop proposals and reports that effectively communicate organizational goals, needs and progress. The Manager also produces the organization’s Annual Report.

Specific Responsibilities
1. Identify new institutional prospects (foundations, corporations, and public donors) and investigate their potential by:
• Communicating regularly with the President, Director of Development, and other members of the Development Team to identify new prospects.
• Conducting ongoing research through the Foundation Center and other sources.

2. Cultivate new and existing relationships with institutional donors by:
• Ensuring that the proper staff or board member uses appropriate phone calls, written communications, visits and tours.
• Personally meeting with foundation staff to explore opportunities for partnership.
• Developing cultivation strategies, share cultivation responsibilities, and keeping lines of communication clear through regular communication with the Director of Development and the President.

3. Develop and submit effective written proposals, reports, and customized thank you letters by writing them personally or by delegating to the Institutional Giving Associate.
• Develop, maintain, and meet a schedule of deadlines for proposal, report, and cultivation actions.
• Collaborate with program and development staff to create proposals that unite organizational goals and needs with donor intent.
• Ensure proper and timely reporting of program outcomes and new developments to institutional donors. Coordinate with program and finance staff throughout the year to be able to
produce reports and updates that are accountable to the proposals originally submitted.
• Ensure that institutional donors receive a customized thank you letter for each gift or declination in a timely manner.

4. Maintain accurate paper and electronic (Raiser’s Edge) files for each institutional donor and prospect, including a record of each action taken and any correspondence.

5. Work with the Manager of Special Events to achieve corporate sponsorship of events. Together, develop sponsorship strategies and identify and cultivate prospects. Also, work with the Managers of Major Gifts and Volunteer Relations to identify prospects for increased corporate giving in those areas.

6. Produce the organization’s Annual Report, working closely with the Director of Development and the President to develop the theme, content, and creative presentation. Manage the production process to bring the project to completion in a timely manner.

7. Collect and organize information on ministry operations (i.e. stories, statistics, program descriptions, curricular information, etc.) in coordination with program staff. Share information with the Development Team regularly and upon request. Review general communication pieces regularly to ensure they reflect the most up-to-date information.

8. Manage and achieve an annual Institutional Giving revenue goal. Work with the Director of Development each July to set a revenue goal, and create a plan to achieve that goal. Track progress against the plan and revenue goal. Make regular reports to the Director of Development.

9. Manage the expense budget for Institutional Giving. Annually, negotiate a new expense budget with the Director of Development.

10. Supervise the Institutional Giving Associate, delegating tasks as appropriate and providing regular feedback on job performance, including an annual performance evaluation.

General Responsibilities
1. Actively participate as a member of the Development Team. Participate in team meetings.

2. Maintain an effective presence as a spokesperson for The Bowery Mission & Kids With A Promise, representing all aspects of our ministry in a positive way to visitors, volunteers, donors, and external groups.

3. Seek out opportunities for educational growth and maintain professional relationships with peers in other organizations, as well as the Foundation Center, seeking out best practices.

4. Complete other duties as assigned.
