Job Description:
Position: Chief Educational Officer (CEO)
Responsible to: Board of Directors
Type of Position: This is a contracted position that is paid on a salaried basis.
Compensation: Commensurate with credentials and experience

Primary Objectives: The CEO is the chief executive of the school, and in partnership with the Board of Directors, is responsible for the success of the school by carrying out its vision and fulfilling its mission. The CEO provides spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership to the school. The CEO is responsible for all aspects of school operations including: agent of the Board, human resource management, business administration, campus management, advancement, and instruction.

Qualifications: The individual must comply with the following:
* a member in good standing of a congregation of the Church of Christ or the Christian Church, faithfully advocating the teachings of the New Testament on faith, repentance of sin, baptism, and guidance of the Holy Spirit to proclaim the gospel to all.
* a supporter of Restoration principles of unity of all believers on the teachings of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit as revealed in Scripture.
* a master's degree is required with emphasis in education courses in either the undergraduate degree or master's degree. A doctorate degree is also preferred but not required
* a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience and/or school administrative experience, preferably in a Christian school.
* able to demonstrate a high level of commitment to Christian education

Spiritually: The individual shall possess characteristics that reflect the following:
* an unreserved acceptance of Sonrise Christian School's Statement of Faith
* a strong, clear Christian testimony
* a mature, Godly spirit
* a person of faith and prayer
* a broad acceptance of and by the evangelical Christian community
* a strong knowledge and understanding of Scripture
* an active involvement in his or her local church
* a servant leader

Professionally: The following shall characterize the individual:
* ability to articulate a Christian philosophy of education consistent with Scripture
* broad experience as a Christian school administrator
* demonstration of executive and management skills and presence
* effectiveness in oral and written communication
* deep understanding and empathy for the Christian school and the Christian school movement
* evidence of being a team player who is responsive to the Board of Directors and the school staff
* willingness to subordinate his or her personal agenda for the sake of the school
* openness to new ideas, initiatives, and concepts in education
* engagement in continuing education and professional development
* credentials that are appropriate for leading the school and its faculty in its educational mission
* proficient in the integration of technology in the classroom

Personally: The individual's life shall reflect the following:
* a person of integrity in business, finance, and human resources through equitable treatment of others
* a life consistent with biblical principles
* a model of God's ideal for the family
* the gift of listening and responding appropriately to the counsel of others
* a commitment to Christian schooling as evidenced by having his or her K-12 school-age children enrolled in a Christian school

Job summary:
The focus of the position is to be the chief executive of Sonrise Christian School. The CEO is responsible for all aspects of school operations. In fulfilling this role, this person is to hire staff and develop administrative policies, procedures, and programs that will implement the directives of the Board of Directors. In addition to maintaining the functioning of the school, the CEO will maintain its testimony for Christ both within and without the school.

Agent of the Board
* be accountable to Board of Directors
* set the agenda and prepare for Board meetings
* attend each board meeting unless the board is in executive session preparing for evaluating the CEO
* give a written report monthly or when requested by the Board
* perform all responsibilities consistent with Board policies
* keep the board informed of significant issues or potential crises through the Board Chairperson
* communicate the needs of the school to the Board
* give support and demonstrate loyalty to the Board at all times

Human resource management
* provide spiritual leadership
* hire personnel for all departments
* oversee supervision and evaluation of all personnel
* ensure compliance with labor laws
* maintain a disaster management plan

Business administration
* oversee all business/accounting functions
* prepare and implement the budget
* establish and monitor purchasing procedures
* ensure compliance with all laws and regulations

Campus management
* ensure the safety of students and school personnel
* oversee the improvement and maintenance of the facilities.
* provide for the care of all school equipment

* provide a vision for the future
* oversee fund raising and development
* establish a rapport within the community
* oversee a student recruitment program
* oversee marketing and public relations activities
* lead in the development and implementation of a long range plan

Essential job functions.
The CEO will lead in such a way that the following are characteristic of the school:

educational programs that develop students who have a biblical worldview and who are well prepared in all academic disciplines
* an academic program that is solid and designed to meet the needs of students
* admission policies developed so that they coincide with the certification of the teaching staff
* clearly implemented channels of communication with the staff and the school Board
* a professional in-service program that is systematically reviewed and implemented for the academic and spiritual growth of the staff
* leadership that is an agent for educational change and innovation
* knowledge and due consideration of major current trends in education in general and Christian education in particular
* a strategic plan that is implemented and is reviewed annually
* an annual budget that is developed and managed on the basis of real cost-accounting principles
* compensation packages that are in accordance with the corresponding positions and that recognize the worth of the staff in the school's functioning
* leadership decisions, relationships, and programs that are consistent with Board policies
* achievement and maintenance of accreditation

Expected outcomes.
The CEO will carry out his or her actions so that the following are characteristic of the school:
* effectiveness educationally, spiritually, and professionally
* staff recruitment that meets the professional standards of the school, with special attention given to diversity of staff as the school addresses the cultural, ethnic, and social issues within the community
* learning experiences designed to enable students to reach their full potential in Christ
* scripture taught as the revealed Word of God and truth, and appropriately integrated into the teaching and learning experience
* a community relationship that is positive, including presentations to groups to inform them about the contributions of Christian schooling to the public good
* day-to-day operational practices that are a consistent model of integrity, efficiency, and accountability
* evidence that the distinctive Christian education of its students is making a difference in their lives
