JOB TITLE: Marketing Specialist

This position will be responsible for market analysis of Upward’s targeted growth and ministry areas, creation of marketing tools for the sales team, managing information flows to these markets, as well as the web information available. This person would work with communications and creative services to convert messaging in general to effective messaging for our target markets. This person would also work with Development on the effective marketing by sport for each of our offerings. This person would belong to the Communications team with key focus in helping support/feed the efforts of the Ministry Growth team.

Principle Requirements:
1.This person should be creative in finding alternative ways to proceed. Faced with any given scenario, they should be able to spot the relevant patterns and issues.
a.A significant portion of time for this position will be in conducting market analysis among different targeted market segments, determining the correct messaging and positioning for offerings and promotions to each.
b.This person must be available to travel, visiting with partners and sales representatives at their locations and at conferences and meetings, to gather information relevant to making strategic marketing decisions.
2.This person must be strong in communications, finding it easy to put their thoughts into words. They should be a strong conversationalist and presenter.
a.This person will work with communications projects, both to existing partners and participants, but to the market as a whole and should be able to effectively deliver the intended message.
b.This person will work with Upward’s core messaging to interpret for different segments and situations, and must be able to effectively deliver this messaging.
c.This person may travel to conferences and meetings and help represent Upward before potential and existing partners.
3.This person should be strong in analytical skills, searching for reasons and causes. They should have the ability to think about the factors that might affect a situation.
a.This person will develop sales tools for the reps to use in growing the number of partners as well as retaining the existing partners.
b.This person will assist with problem solving to overcome barriers to growth.
c.This person will provide daily support to the Partner Growth team. They will assist the Program Development team in finding creative solutions to problems in compliance. They will also be responsible for developing creative ways to promote new program components.
d.This person should understand the internet marketing capabilities and limitations and be prepared to lead Upward in this area.
4.This person should be fascinated by ideas. They need to be able to make connections among seemingly disparate phenomena.
a.When researching Upward’s target market segments, this person will need to have the skills to find commonalities and differences and the wisdom to tell them apart.
b.This person will need to connect the Upward program to the target market by identifying interests and common objectives, in order to market Upward appropriately to these segments.
5.This person should be an achiever, having a great deal of stamina and a history of hard work. They need to take great satisfaction from being busy and productive.
a.The marketing materials of Upward are constantly being updated. This person will work with communications to keep all materials current and relevant.
b.Upward has a goal to double the number of participants and partners in the next six years, requiring a significant effort in the marketing of Upward programs to new partners and participants.
c.This position will be measured alongside sales growth in the delivery of new participants and partners.

• 3 plus years Marketing / Advertising Experience
• Bachelors Degree in Marketing or Business.
• Marketing Plan Development
• Marketing Campaign Development and Execution
• Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
• Customer Relations Management Software experience
• Using Social Media to accomplish initiatives


• Upward League Experience
• Prior experience using Content Management System
