Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc., a national leader in helping at-risk and high-risk youth succeed, is seeking Youth Counselor/Teachers for our outdoor therapeutic programs in Georgia.
Youth Counselor/Teachers are the heart of EYA's therapeutic outdoor treatment camps. Two or three Counselor/Teachers work with each group of 8-12 youth, leading the group through daily activities, ensuring the group is safe, productive, and helping each child develop effective problem-solving, communication, and other critical skills and life strategies.
Youth Counselor/Teachers live with their group in a somewhat primitive campsite setting, though dining halls, classrooms, and shower buildings at camp are modern facilities. Counselor/Teachers typically work five days/nights on followed by two days off, although off-site trips sometimes last up to 21 days.
A more detailed look at a typical day as a Youth Counselor/Teacher can be found at www.eckerdyouth.org. Please be sure to review the information on the website carefully before submitting your resume.
A Bachelors degree is preferred. Extensive paid training is provided, but some experience working with youth is strongly preferred. Volunteer and part-time experiences are considered. Youth Counselor/Teachers must be able to participate in a variety of outdoors activities including hiking, backpacking, and extended canoe trips. Outdoors experience also strongly preferred.
