Job Description:

Durham Rescue Mission is seeking a qualified and energetic professional for the position of Director of Communications and Development to oversee a program of annual fund raising and an upcoming capital campaign that will raise money for a significant building project planned for its campus located in Northeast Central Durham. The Director of Communications and Development manages a personal portfolio of major donors and oversees a team of staff, outside partners, and volunteer leaders working to secure continually increasing gift income from current and potential donors and to proactively promote a broader understanding of the Durham Rescue Mission and its ministry. This is a permanent full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor’s degree or higher in philanthropy, business, or another related field and/or five years of experience in development, marketing, sales, capital campaigns and/or management.
•Understanding of the advancement and marketing efforts of a Christian not-for-profit organization with a demonstrated track record of prior fund-raising success.
•Proven ability to develop and deliver compelling communications to a variety of audiences.
•All employees of the Durham Rescue Mission must be practicing their Christianity by being an active member of an evangelical church, have an exemplar testimony, and be in agreement with the Durham Rescue Mission Statement of Faith.

ABOUT DURHAM RESCUE MISSION
The Durham Rescue Mission (DRM) is a faith-based, non-profit organization located in Durham, NC. The ministry's primary goal is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on the cross. DRM is achieving this goal by ministering to the hungry and homeless with services structured to meet the needs of the whole person: spiritual, educational, emotional, physical, social, and vocational, so that they may become fully functioning members of society. With a staff of nearly 30 individuals working from three campuses, and an annual operating budget of over $3.0 million, this ministry provides food, clothing, shelter, vocational training, continuing education, job placement, permanent supportive housing, and Christian counseling 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In partnership with other community agencies they also provide medical, dental, and vision clinics for underserved individuals and families. The Durham Rescue Mission operates without any government funding, relying instead upon gifts from individuals, churches, businesses, civic groups, organizations, grants, bequests, and foundations.
