Mercy Ships, a global charity, has operated a fleet of hospital ships in developing nations since 1978. Mercy Ships programs promote health and well-being by serving the urgent surgical needs of the forgotten poor and empowering developing communities. Following the example of Jesus, Mercy Ships brings hope and healing to the poor, mobilizing people and resources worldwide. Our Crew of both professional medical and non-medical volunteers have chosen a very powerful way to share their blessings. We are currently filling Self Funded positions for the International Operations Center in Texas, Mercy Ships Africa Mercy and The Sierra Leone.

We are currently looking to fill a position for Engineering Storeman

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Chief Engineer & Second Engineer

SUMMARY: Responsible for stock control, orderliness, and tidiness of the areas in the Engineering Department designated for storage of parts and supplies.

*Maintaining inventory of chemicals, lube oil and consumables for the Engineering Department;

*Notifying the appropriate person immediately of need to re-order. (Usually Second Engineer)

*Receiving, storing, and updating records for all spares/supplies/donations received onboard for the Engineering Department;

*Advising the appropriate person within department of delivery of any spares/consumables.

*Delivering any relevant paperwork, such as receipts and invoices, to Chief Engineer, or as he directs;

*Maintaining cleanliness and good order in the Engineering Change Room: care of coveralls, issue tools, flashlights, and personal protective equipment as required by Engineering crew members;

*Stand watches as required depending on capacity of STCW Certificate of Competency and on board familiarization training;

*Maintain relevant knowledge of ship’s emergency procedures;

*Understanding of Company Safety Management System as it applies to the responsibilities of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret gauges and instrumentation. Ability to complete log sheets. Ability to effectively communicate with others in clear English.

*Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-III/4 preferred but not essential.
*It is required to have practical and theoretical knowledge with regard to use of hand tools and portable power tools.
*Experience with the Company planned maintenance system is desired.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
