General Role: guide patients on their journey to psychological wellness with primary expertise in the medical sphere, but significantly appreciating and incorporating the psychological and the spiritual components to facilitate the patient’s full healing experience

Skills –

  • Able to empathically and compassionately interview someone with a BH issue
  • Able to interview a BH patient using the organization’s comprehensive psychiatric assessment
  • Able to diagnose mental health disorders
  • Able to diagnose substance use disorders
  • Able to elicit medical histories and perform physical exams to assess for medical causes of the BH issues or for comorbid medical issues that are from the BH disorder and/or exacerbate the BH disorder
  • Knowledge of what medical tests to order to accurately diagnosis the patient
  • Able to assess for level of detox and use standard CAWS and COWS for withdrawal severity
  • Able to prescribe initial psychiatric and detox medications, monitor and document results, and perform follow-up medication management within accepted standard of care guidelines.
  • Able to handle crisis situations, assess the situation, provide physical safeguarding of patient and staff, de-escalate situation psychologically, and follow appropriate protocols in the best interest of safety for all involved.
  • Able to provide talk therapy addressing the various BH disorders with expertise in incorporating the following therapeutic modalities into individual, group, or family sessions:
  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Emotion Focused Therapy
  • Interpersonal Therapy
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Able to work within the context of a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Contributing their expertise
  • Incorporating input from other team members
  • Encouraging the team and growing its unity
  • Leading the team as is necessary from a medical standpoint
  • Clear and accurate clinical documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)

 

Physical Requirements

  • Corrected vision 20/20
  • Hearing within normal limits
  • Ambulation without impediment
  • Good reaction times to be able to physically protect self or others in a crises situation
  • Able to lift 25 pounds or to assist a patient with transfer
