ABOUT MSA: Mountain and Sea Educational Adventures (MSA) was founded in 1997 as a non-profit organization with a mission to teach outdoor education in a manner which increases the awareness of the environment, raises the spirit of youth, and builds their confidence. Our program sites are located on Catalina Island, The San Bernardino Mountains, The Expo Clipper (our mini cruise ship), Newport Beach, and Cabrillo Beach. We teach science concepts in the midst of the outdoors, fostering growth and building character. We run programs specific for Christian Schools, as well as Public Schools. Teachers and parents are calling MSA the most innovative and "student challenging" outdoor education camp in California! Join our team and find out why!

QUALIFICATIONS: Education/experience in a science or education related field is preferred but not necessary. Most important is the desire to work with youth in the environment. This position requires lifeguard and CPR certification, which is provided during staff training. A physical fitness test will be given with the following requirements: ability to swim at least 350 yards without stopping, retrieve a 10 pound brick from a depth of 8', tow a kayaker for a distance of 250 yards, and be able to lift 40 pounds. Instructors will teach a wide array of topics that include marine biology, astronomy, ecology, natural history, physics, and survival skills. Activities include kayaking, snorkeling (day and night), hiking, high ropes, devotions, skit night, and other educational activities and games. Instructors receive training in all required subjects, as well as how to convey the material in an engaging manner to children. In addition to the above mentioned responsibilities, instructors will attend a weekly staff meeting. They will also assist with some basic camp program maintenance such as preparing for and cleaning up after labs, assisting with meal clean up, boat upkeep, and other duties pertinent to the operations of a smooth program.
