Job Description:

To advance the purpose of InterVarsity, this position will assist InterVarsity Global Programs by providing quality opportunities for students and staff to explore God’s work in the world through quality cross-cultural opportunities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Spiritual and Professional Growth:

  • Be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ
  • Engage the disciplines of the Christian life
  • Engage in professional development as needed

Program Development and Execution: (60% of job responsibility)

Assist the Assoc. Dir of Missions with the development and implementation of Global Programs by:

  • Implementing a common vision for Global Programs among directors and staff
  • Administering, evaluating and improving Global Program programs and curriculum
  • Appointing and training Global Program directors in partnership with InterVarsity regions
  • Mentoring new directors, including potential trips to set up Global Programs
  • Helping directors administer student pre-field preparation and fund raising
  • Helping directors administer student re-entry and follow-up programs
  • Assisting in the leadership and implementation of New Director Training
  • Maintaining or updating the Global Programs web pages and other social media
  • Assisting in the production and distribution of promotional materials
  • Helping develop and execute Urbana on-site recruitment and other programs
  • Representing Global Programs to constituents inside and outside InterVarsity
  • Leading a Global Program on a regular basis

Administration: (30% of job responsibility)

  • Assist in annual plans, application processes, budgets, finances, and accounting
  • Assist directors in managing student fundraising accounts
  • Enforce all Global Program (GP) policies as outlined in the GP Directors Handbook and national InterVarsity risk management policies
  • Assist with the management of crises on the field when necessary

Develops a personal and programmatic prayer and financial support base: (10% of job responsibility)

  • Secure and maintain a group of people who covenant to pray and financially support our ministry
  • Build and maintain personal support base to raise 50% of salary and benefits
  • Nurture donor relationships through visits, phone calls and quarterly prayer letters
  • Create and maintain a network of Global Program partners for prayer and financial support

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Annually affirm InterVarsity’s Statement of Faith
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 1-3 years of experience preferable in positions dealing with global or student ministry
  • InterVarsity Global Program or Trek director experience preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead and care for directors in the midst of emotionally stressful situations
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a diverse team environment
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to mobilize leaders to mission
  • Proven administrative experience
  • A working knowledge of current Microsoft Software applications (Word and Excel) is preferred
