Job Description:

Purpose:                                    To serve Dream Centers by maintaining and developing relationships with donors, secure major gifts/grants, create building blocks for individual gifts program, maintain and develop donor tracking database.

 

Organization Background

Since 2011, Dream Centers of Colorado Springs, a faith-based nonprofit, has provided health and hope to those rebuilding their dreams. The Dream Centers include a Women’s Clinic, Mary’s Home (residential housing), and Adopt-A-Block programs. We offer medical care, counseling, spiritual growth, life-skills training, education, job development and positive role modeling from live-in, resident staff. This holistic approach helps heal the hurting from the inside out so they can become self-sufficient members of society.

 

 

Position Summary

The Development Officer reports to the Executive Director (ED) with specific responsibilities for developing and implementing a comprehensive and multifaceted fundraising program to include direct mail, major donors, grants and foundations, and supervision of all aspects related to the technology associated with the tracking of donations. S/he will also be responsible for special events related to donor acquisition.

 

 

Daily Responsibilities Related to:

 

  • Develop and manage Dream Center’s annual fundraising plan
  • Develop and manage timelines for fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner
  • Develop and nurture a culture of biblical stewardship using fundraising principles (see The Third Conversion by R. Scot Rodin) through the Dream Centers staff
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Create and execute a strategy for growing a large sustained base of recurring donors
  • Develop and track letters of intent and grant proposals for all foundations
  • Initiate and foster ongoing relationships with corporate partnerships to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the Dream Centers
  • Manage the implementation of SalesForce (Non-profit edition) donor tracking software and manage staff responsible for data entry and gift processing
  • Plan and execute citywide fundraising events (i.e. Ladies Tea, banquets, luncheons)
  • Recruit, select, and train well-qualified fund development staff
  • Train volunteers for projects using established volunteer management practices
  • Create peer-to-peer fundraising tools and train key volunteers in fundraising
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan to promote the Dream Centers to its donors and maximize public awareness for our target audiences
  • Coordinate the design/printing/distribution of development materials
  • Coordinate in-kind donations and make decisions regarding the issuing of receipts

 

Outcomes

  • Develop annual fundraising plan, in alignment with existing strategic plan, capable of increasing donations from $1.2MM to $1.5MM in operations and $300k in capital
  • Make 360 unique personal donor contacts in first 6 months
  • Increase annualized donations in excess of $300,000
  • Develop, apply (without contract support) and receive 3 foundation grants in 1 year

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • 5-plus years experience in development or fundraising related experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of SalesForce (Non-profit edition) required; Flip Cause and MailChimp would be advantageous
  • Experience with the use of social media for marketing or fundraising campaigns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and committed team player
  • Self-motivated and productive with autonomy
  • Outgoing and comfortable interacting with staff and public
  • Strong work ethic

Education

  • BA (required); graduate degree preferred
