Summary

The Institutional Research Specialist’s main responsibility is to serve as SUM’s institutional accreditation Liaison Officer for satisfying (a) accreditation requirements on institutional effectiveness and assessment of student learning outcomes, and (b) requirements to legally operate in various states. He/She is also responsible for the collection, analysis, and reporting data pertinent to SUM Bible College and Theological Seminary.

Responsibilities

  1. Exemplify a lifestyle and implement the principles of servanthood.
  2. Serve as the external liaison for various reporting entities such as the Institutional Accreditation Liaison Officer with ABHE and WASC; Operate as the contact person for the various states where SUM operates under state approval and/or exemption. Secure and maintain authorization in every state where SUM has students. Timely submission required for all documentation for ABHE (annual report), WASC (annual report), BPPE, IPEDS (tri-annual reporting), KPEDS (annual reporting), and other state oversight bodies annually or as otherwise required. Maintain organized records prerequisite and subsequent to submissions.
  3. Ensure appropriate data collection, professional analysis of results, timely, complete and reporting of surveys, reports, and statistical brief, and other research documents, products, and services across the institution.
  4. Design and administer course evaluations, in consultation with the entire Academic Department. Work within the Academic Department for the timely dissemination of results to individual faculty members.
  5. Manage projects appropriate to research within SUM. Design research instruments and projects useful to the entire institution. Provide leadership, oversight, and coordination of campus-wide research based assessment and evaluation processes.
  6. Serve as a research leader to members of the faculty, administration, students, and staff on projects concerned with the assessment of student learning outcomes, course and program evaluation, and related initiatives.
  7. Ensure a systematic review of institutional effectiveness program plans and communicate feedback to the units; support the research and analysis activities, including development of surveys and other methods of data collection.
  8. Maintain an organized central repository of assessment evidence.
  9. Lead the annual assessment of each cohort, providing timely pre-visit and post-visit reports to the cohort. Engage in careful data collection in keeping with acceptable “best practices” of quality research standards. Submit timely findings to the Executive team and the Board of Directors.
  10. Comply with all of SUM’s policies as set out in the manuals and handbooks.
  11. As a member of the academic department, assist with various duties within the department during periods of heavy workloads. Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary by the Chief Academic Officer.
Qualifications
  1. Hold at least a graduate degree in an appropriate academic discipline such as social/behavioral science, education, educational research, evaluation, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  2. Excellent communication and presentation skills are required.
  3. Ability to work with diverse populations.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with SUM’s varied offices, extensions, and cohorts.
  5. An above-reproach standing within the academic, discipline, and ecclesiastical community
  6. Advanced knowledge of institutional effectiveness methods for higher education.
  7. Experience with administering assessment programs especially that of student learning outcomes, accreditation, compliance and research.
  8. Advanced knowledge and skill in computer usage: database design and operation, spreadsheets, and other general office software, as well as familiarity with basic statistical analysis.
  9. Must have interest in quantitative information, education research, and data analysis.
  10. Knowledge of theological ministry training preferred.
  11. High level organizational skills.
  12. Able to work independently.
