Job Description:

The Director of Ministry position is responsible for the daily operation of the Union Gospel Mission Men’s Programs.  This includes the following: planning, goal setting and monitoring, organization of programs, budgeting, personnel motivation, discipleship training and transition into housing. The Director of Ministries shall participate with other staff members as part of a unified ministry effort.

The Ministry Director shall have the ability to give talks and sermons to churches, Sunday School groups, and social action groups as required.

The Director of Ministries shall assist the Executive Director in promoting the spiritual welfare of all staff members; challenging them to grow. He shall also be responsible for providing internal means of spiritual growth, conducting daily prayer, periodic teaching and worship.

Essential Functions:


Develop programs; establish goals,   objectives and strategies for rehabilitation, outreach, and services to the   community served by UGM. 

Provide a weekly brief on operations in   ministry areas. 

Evaluate programs and make recommendations   for changes or additional programs. 

Participate in the hiring of new ministry   employees. 

Maintain a challenging environment of   learning and spiritual growth for men on the discipleship program. 

Approve men coming into the discipleship   program. 

Assume responsibility for the men’s shelter   in the absence of the Executive Director. 

Evaluate discipleship men and   recommendations on progress through the program. 

Write and/or approve program curriculum for   discipleship program. 

Create and write job descriptions for new   positions over which he has supervision. 

Active in soul-winning. 

Maintain a clean environment for ministry. 

Conduct necessary training personally or   arrange it for discipleship staff. 

Guide discipleship members in developing to   their full potential. 

Maintain an environment which is conducive   to high motivation and achievement. 

Create and maintain a continually high level   of integrity, professionalism, and instruction in communicating standards of   Christian living and practice. 

Produce monthly activity reports. 

Assist the Executive Director in producing   the annual departmental budget, and conduct periodic adjustments and reviews. 

Supply discipleship information for the   production of the quarterly newsletter. 

Present the program of the UGM when   requested.
