Job Description Overview
The PASSAGE Christian Academy is an outreach ministry of PASSAGE Ministries, Inc., a Corporation dba PASSAGE Family Church.
Mission: The mission of the PASSAGE Christian Academy is to provide children a superior, well rounded academic education and foundation in an environment that fosters a healthy Christian lifestyle in preparation for world leadership and success -- in both the Kingdom and secular arenas.
The Principal is the chief school administrator leading and directing all phases of the school’s operations, educational programs, finances, personnel, and environment in accordance with PMI adopted policies and direction set forth by the CEO/Senior Pastor. The Principal, in partnership with parents, teachers, and the School Advisory Board, is responsible for the success of the school and each child by carrying out the school's mission. The Principal provides spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership to the school. All of the school’s professional and non-professional staff, students, and volunteers are responsible to the Principal. The Principal is accountable to the Senior Pastor.
All duties of the Principal are to be performed in accordance with the church Vision and in compliance with the corporate “Standards & Expectations for Leaders”.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Oversight of the academic quality of the school insuring that students receive an exemplary education. This will entail oversight of the implementation of approved curriculum as well as provision for the necessary teacher and staff training and development.
Oversight of all administrative aspects of the school. This will include at a minimum, coordination of business affairs, communication with families, development of the school calendar, insuring the accuracy of major record keeping functions such as tuition payments, grading and attendance.
Oversight of the daily operations of the school, including but not limited to, ensuring adequate staffing and substitute staffing as needed. On occasion the principal may serve as a teaching substitute and/or be included in the teaching rotation for certain classes of subject matter.
Direct the admissions process. Approve student admissions and transfers in accordance with school policies and guidelines. Approve all promotions, accelerations, and retentions of pupils in accordance with policies.
Formulate innovative concepts, ideas and plans to engage parents in the educational process of their child(ren) and contribute to the success of the school in productive and effective ways.
Develop a viable long term funding strategy and seek to establish and sustain a broad financial base for the school through various innovative means. Ensure that all state or federal aid programs meet all requirements.
Oversight of recruitment, interviewing and communication with prospective families and conducting exit interviews.
Aid and assist qualified families in the identification and application process for scholarship and grant funding, etc.
Prepare and recommend to the CEO an annual school budget including, but not limited to, salaries, supplies (books, equipment, etc.) and capital improvements for progressive growth of the school. Annual budget must reflect milestones, objectives and goals identified in a multi-year plan for school long term development and growth.
Identify creative ways to control and reduce expenses while improving the overall school program. Monitor budget spending as it relates to day to day operations.
Participate in approved fund-raising initiatives as required; periodically speak with prospective donors and communicate the mission of the school to local preschool directors, corporations, etc.
In collaboration with and subject to final action by the Human Resources Director and CEO, oversee the hiring, required disciplinary action, and dismissal of teachers, staff and volunteers.
In collaboration with the Director of Budget, Accounting & Contracts, ensure timely and accurate processing of finance related matters such as purchasing supplies and materials, payroll, and payment of invoices.
Demonstrate consistent commitment to effective ongoing communication between all members of the school community (principal to teacher, principal to families, teacher to families, etc.).
Must be aware of and insure compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws related to operating a private school including laws related to rights to access and equitable participation of enrolled students. In cooperation with the Budget Office, ensure compliance with all IRS requirements and regulations for maintaining tax deductible status, etc.
Remain current with the latest trends and standards in education at the local, state and national levels. Monitor and serve as the official PMI liaison to the community and county agencies, boards, panels, etc. regarding educational issues, plans and initiatives.
Attend monthly CEO/Board meetings and provide a regular report on operational issues including but not limited to matters relating to personnel, discipline, curriculum, school calendar, policy recommendations and other topics as directed by the CEO.
Oversee the accreditation and maintenance processes, and other strategic planning initiatives as directed. Oversee compliance and maintenance of state private school standards.
Promote the school and encourage parents to enroll their children.
Coordinate weekly all-school devotions.
Manage the school health and safety programs.
Prepare and maintain an annual school calendar and calendar of events for the current and following school years, in conjunction with the PMI Administrative Office.
Identify individual staff assignments for the following year.
Schedule and record required fire and hurricane drills and their procedures.
Report child abuse as required by law and PMI policy.
Supervise annual standardized testing.
Prepare job descriptions for non-professional staff.
Establish an archive of important school activities.
Required Professional Attributes, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
The Principal shall be a professing Christian actively living out his/her faith and a person of spiritual maturity with proven academic and leadership skills and abilities.
Further, the Principal shall:
- Consistently demonstrate love for children and a servant-leader's attitude;
- Be a Covenant Partner of PASSAGE Ministries;
- Hold a Masters degree in education from an accredited postsecondary;
- Have a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience and/or school administrative experience, preferably in a Christian school;
- Demonstrate computer literacy: proficiency is needed in word processing, spreadsheet design, e-mailing, general internet use, presentation software, etc.;
- Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to Christian education; and
- Maintain educational/administrative credentials (1.0 CUE credits per year)
