Title: Hair Stylist

Provide quality hair care for short-term and long-term crew members on the Africa Mercy ship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work hours are 8am to 5pm in developed countries.
Work hours during field service are: One to two days per week working 1PM-9PM to perform medical, CDS and night crew haircuts, The other 3-4 days working 8AM - 5PM.
Attend and participate in departmental devotions and all meetings called for the community.
Schedule appointments for crew between 8:30am and 4:45pm
Crew allowed one haircut every four weeks if on the ship for eight weeks or longer.
Restrict chemical treatment to three per week for hair cutting.
Crew allowed one perm every three months if on the ship of eight weeks or longer.
Crew allowed one colour every six weeks if on the ship for eight weeks or longer.
Cutting, colouring and perming of crew's hair, making careful record of services and chemicals, colours used.
Monitor supplies making note of items to be procured or purchased during time in developing countries.
Assist in the procuring and buying by being available to talk to represtenatives.
Secure work area for sailing, checking on stability during sailing.
The hair salon is one of the few areas that ministers totally to the crew. The hairstylist needs to be able to encourage, pray for and uplift his/her clients.
Keep the hair salon clean and tidy at all times, leaving it locked when not in use.
Post and keep current the sign-up sheets and also take appointments and cancellations via the telephone.
Inform Customer Service Manager of illness and for approval of vacation time with a minimum of 2 week notice.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Requirements)
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Valid hairstylist certificate, able to do coloring, perms and haircuts.
Need to be able to work with all types and textures of hair including African.
Physical ability and stamina to be on feet all day.
Have a servant's heart.
Must remain flexible at all times.
Ability to work in multi-cultural environment.
Professionalism in demeanor at all times.
