Job Description:
Ministries for teenagers and young adults are effectively developed and implemented which positively influence young people in decisions for Christ as well as in development of spiritual maturity, vision, commitment and ministry.

Salvation Army corps, community centers, and institutions have a visible resource available to assist in developing and evaluating effective ministry to youth in the Metropolitan Division.

Oversight is provided to existing Christian Education program for teenagers (Corps Cadets) in the Metropolitan Division which includes leadership training as well as grading and recording all Corps Cadet lessons on a monthly basis throughout the school year.

Leadership is provided for Youth related events including Divisional Youth Rallies/Councils, Chicago Public School/Civic Christmas Assemblies, Youth Celebration Programs, Annual Command Reviews, Divisional Fall event and Winter Corps Cadet Retreat.

Good working relationships exist with Territorial and other Divisional Youth contacts reflected by interaction with the Territorial Corps Cadet Counselor, preparation of all necessary reports on a timely basis and annual attendance at Territorial Youth department leaders conference/events.

A resource exists in planning and implementation of the camp programs for teenagers and young adults.

Employees and volunteers are recruited, trained and developed for involvement in programming for youth which includes compliance with Safe From Harm guidelines.

In conjunction with the youth department staff, a coordinated and integrated strategy is developed, implemented and evaluated on an on-going basis for the Metropolitan Division.

The demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects, priorities and programs in a constantly changing environment.

An ability to anticipate and respond to issues in a positive and timely manner.

A communication and management style that is responsive as well as fosters team relationships and effectively communicates information.

An understanding of the cutting edge issues involved in effective Youth Ministry, especially in cross-cultural and urban environments.

A growing knowledge of the Armys history, mission, and structure, as well as its services, policies and procedures.

Effective written and oral communication skills, especially in public presentations.

Minimum of a Bachelors Degree, preferably in Youth Ministry, with advanced training or degree desired.

A minimum of 2 to 3 years experience working with youth (minority, low income and at-risk youth, college/career or Junior/Senior high school youth ministry).

A minimum of 6 months to 1 year experience supervising and planning youth programs.

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

This position reports to the Divisional Youth Secretary of the Metropolitan Division

This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army including consistent interaction with Corps Officers and members. In these contacts, the Director acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

In conducting the duties of this position, this individual will not fail to accurately represent the mission or teachings of the Salvation Army.

The individual shall not fail to keep the Divisional Youth Secretary of the Metropolitan Division informed of all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.

The individual not commit Agency resources which have not been allocated or approved.

This position has an essential role in fulfilling the full mission of the Salvation Army. Because of the integral nature of this responsibility, active membership in a Salvation Army Corps is required.
