The Stoller Foundation’s mission is to lead the way in Christian evangelization and volunteerism by investing in communities in need. We create, empower, and support Christian non-profits who agree that the best way to make an impact is to roll up your sleeves
and love your neighbor through practical service.
While the Foundation offers grants to outside non-profits, its primary function is to create its own start-up ministries (called “initiatives”) and develop them to the point of self-sustaining activity. Some of the programs we currently support include:
- Self-created initiatives such as a tuition-assisted early childhood education program, a youth soccer league, and a volunteer mobilization initiative that supplements non-profit needs.
- A hip-hop ministry to at-risk youth.
- Multiple apartment ministries.
- A community revitalization effort in Houston’s impoverished Third Ward.
- A re-entry program for formerly-incarcerated women, pairing them with a female mentor to support and advise them.
With each program we invest in, we define our impact at the outset and implement robust data-collection. Then we share what we’re learning with the community and hold our organizations accountable toward progress. In many ways, we view our investment in
initiatives and grantmaking as a venture-capital approach—one that results in mobilizing Christians to make a difference.

The program accountant will report directly to the Executive Director of the Foundation. In addition, the program accountant will work with the Executive Directors of the initiatives that the Foundation has created. Specific responsibilities include:
- Financial Operations: Maintain the organization's financial records using the QuickBooks accounting program; handle accounts payable/receivables and account reconciliations, track income/donations and expenses comparing actual and budgeted
numbers and produce financial reports. Coordinate the annual audit & tax preparation process with our outside accountants.
- Personnel Management: Process payroll for growing staff with related taxes, reports and W2s; maintain attendance and vacation tracking systems; and manage benefits program.
- Corporate Maintenance: Complete annual charitable solicitation filings and other corporate filings in all necessary locations for the Foundation, partnering initiatives, and future initiatives; prepare financial reports for the board of
directors. Handle yearly analysis of insurance needs including general liability, board, travel, and property insurance. Work with the Executive Director to produce the annual operations and grant making budget as well as other needed reports for board of
- Organizational Development: Maintain relationships with vendors including banking, accounting, legal, benefits, technology and the like. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions and stay up to date on nonprofit
best practices for accounting.
- Grant Making Support: As time permits, provide assistance in reviewing grant application financials as well as analysis of financial soundness of applying organizations.
Program / Initiative Coordinating:
- Provide accounting and bookkeeping services for the Foundation and all its initiatives
- Research and document IRS & legal regulations involved in starting up and maintaining ministries
- Ensure completion of Form 1023 applications for all new initiatives and assist the initiative ED in completing the various initiative formation steps and provide compliance guidelines
- Attain all state/postage exemption for the Foundation and its initiatives
- Be a resource to grantees for financial management and risk management issues
- Ensure completion of Form 990 tax returns for the Foundation and its initiatives, as well as all federal and state employment/contractor tax filings (e.g. Form 941, 1099)
- Research potential audit providers and provide recommendations for the board
- Work with auditors of the Foundation or initiatives to attain a qualified opinion
- Document new non-profit formation steps for future replication
- Evaluate risk for the Foundation and its initiatives and update risk management policies
- Work with the Foundation and the initiative ED to set goals
- Assist in the documentation and creation of internal controls, and the development of policies and procedures for the Foundation and its initiatives
- In conjunction with Foundation staff, make site visits and produce reports on potential and current grantees
- Assist in the evaluation of potential grantees based on the Foundation’s criteria
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, with least five years’ experience in accounting.
- Experience with tax accounting is a must.
- CPA preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of fiscal regulations.
- A strong understanding of the unique natures of both the non-profit sector (particularly Christian ministries) and the private sector, and capacity to effectively navigate the differences between the two.
- Agrees with and exhibits behaviors in accordance with the Foundation’s Mission and Vision, strongly motivated by a desire to see Christians mobilized in service.
- Possesses attention to detail and an eye for risk management
- Self-starting attitude, with a willingness to help an organization succeed by going above and beyond accounting-only duties.
