SUMMARY Responsible for writing, editing, and maintaining content in a creative, workmanlike manner for worldwide Christian organizations corporate Web site, and HTML e-mail.
This position focuses on two key areas of responsibility: (1) Writing, editing, and managing the Web site to keep current content, (2) editing the organizations HTML e-communications when written by others. Web editor will have significant interaction with the Communications Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Research, write, edit short news articles, creative content for Webs front page.
Edit/rewrite Web, HTML e-mail content produced by others.
Develop, implement system for archiving documents and photos, graphic illustrations as part of communications team.
Assist in converting existing small studies, brochures, and other materials to an on-line format.
Maintain archive of on-line reference documents, ensuring that updates and revisions are accurate and timely.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill, and/or ability required.
General knowledge of web copywriting (style constraints, ability to convey content in small spaces)
At least two years web development experience; one year of editorial experience.
Advanced working knowledge of personal computers and operating systems.
Advanced knowledge of Web tools such as PageMaker, Dreamweaver, and other authoring systems.
Excellent understanding of the capabilities, requirements and limitations of Web-based delivery systems.
Strong skills in HTML, image optimization, image manipulation.
Excellent working knowledge of database design principles and experience in using databases in a Web-based environment (Blackbauds Raisers Edge & Financial Edge strongly preferred.)
Good eye for layout and design.
Experience in conducting analysis of Web traffic, online fundraising results.
Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Good oral and written communications skills.
Good organizational and project planning skills.
Must be able to hear and reflect the voice and tone of our President/CEO and be able to implement that vision to the field through the web.
Must be creative and have the ability to market the web.
Must be teachable, having humility of spirit.
Must be a good listener and communicator and be able to ask relevant questions as necessary.
Must have editorial ability and experience.
Must have a technical and graphic aptitude.
Must be able to multitask, prioritize, and meet multiple deadlines.
Must be a flexible team player who is able to work effectively with individuals of different backgrounds and levels of expertise in an established team.
Some project management.
Dependable, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Available to travel to annual Aglow conferences and other off-site meetings as needed.
Must proactively coordinate and manage web site in a timely manner.
Elicit web contact within the Aglow context and effectively edit text.
Participate with the Aglow Leadership Team and attend other meetings as necessary to the web content.
Work with the "big picture" of a worldwide organization with sensitivity to language, cultural differences in communications.
Coordinate e-communication, Web site, with print communications.
Maintain organizations search engines status in conjunction with information systems specialist.
Keeps organization looking fresh and current on the web.
Work with leaders in the field to help maintain consistent standards, protocols, with regional web coordinators.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, English, or journalism. Experience in design, implementation and modification of Web-based applications helpful. Two or more years experience in Web authoring and management, along with a minimum of one year of experience in e-communications.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to communicate information, evoke response, motivate readers with effective use of words.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
