Job Description:

The Coordinator of Childrens and Youth Ministries equips and ministers to children, youth and families by nurturing relationships with them, and through programmatic efforts. His or her ministry is a response to the gospel of Christ and his lordship, dependent on the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, and in conjunction with the gifts of the whole body of Christ. He or she works with Ward Parkways Christian Education Council, Youth Council, Personnel Council, Outreach Council and Discipleship and Spiritual Nurture Council.


This is a full time position entailing a minimum of 40 hours per week on a non-traditional schedule. Salary range is $25,000 to $30,000 annually, depending on education and experience. Major medical coverage and pension.


Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church is an active congregation of over 200 members.

We have a wonderful range of ages, including charter members who started our church in 1953, and more than 100 members who have joined the congregation in the last 10 years. Our nursery is full and a small baby boom promises future enrollment in church activities and our nationally renowned and accredited preschool.

Our church enjoys biblical preaching from our evangelical pastor and multiple, small group Bible studies in which members and guests grow in faith and relationship with one another.

We benefit from the biblical, proud heritage of Presbyterianism, without getting caught up in the liberal directions sometimes taken by our denomination (PCUSA).

As our Sunday morning schedule reflects, we offer two styles of worship, as well as Christian Education for all ages:

Celebration Service 9:00 am
Christian Education 10:00 am
Traditional Service 11:00 am.

We strive to reach out to our neighbors with love and service through ministries that meet felt needs, such as Alpha, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), Growing Strong Marriages, Christian Financial Concepts courses, Habitat for Humanity workdays, and various inner-city and foreign ministries.

This ministry coordinator relates to the:
*Pastor as head of staff
*session as staff through the Personnel Council
*session as member ex-officio with voice and without vote
*church councils, boards and committees as resource and co-workers
*congregation as staff, resource, leader, coordinator, fellow worshiper and fellow servant of Christ
*staff as colleague

1.Models a healthy, growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
2.Demonstrates mature interpersonal skills and sound mental health
3.Is grounded in sound, evangelical Christian theology
4.Demonstrates a giftedness for, rapport with, knowledge of and some experience in childrens and youth ministry
5.Loves children of all ages
6.Has the ability to lead others to faith in Christ and growth as disciples
7.Has self-initiative, as well as proven ability to coalesce a ministry team
8.A Bachelors degree or beyond


1.Work with the pastor, session and appropriate councils and teams to establish ministry objectives and goals
2.Oversee Sunday morning Christian education for children and youth
3.Recruit, equip, and incorporate laypeople into ministries for which they are gifted and called, specifically developing teams of:
a.Adult volunteers
b.Teen volunteers
c.Christian Education Teachers
d.Small Group leaders
4.Develop personal relationships with children and youth
5.Provide parents, children and youth with relevant resources
6.Develop and manage ministry budgets with the Youth and Christian Education councils
7.Work with volunteers in planning, selecting, implementing and evaluating curriculum and supplies used in Christian education classrooms
8.Resource and plan with the appropriate councils Summer C.E. and other plans, such as Vacation Bible School or an alternative
9.Provide comfort, care, and informal counseling to students and adults, as needed, referring to credentialed professionals when appropriate
10.Attend church services and congregational activities on a regular basis
11.Participate in annual mutual review of ministry conducted by the Personnel Council

1.Plan and establish leadership for regular youth events
2.Equip an identified space within the church for youth
3.Mentor students or small groups of students in discipling relationships
4.Lead Sunday morning high school Christian Education with adult volunteers
5.Equip teens for personal evangelism
6.Equip teens for effective participation in the congregation
7.Present the Gospel to both Christian and non-Christian students
8.Plan and organize annual Youth Sunday
9.Lead worship as requested, if so gifted
10.With the Youth council, plan and lead an annual summer mission trip
11.Maintain and develop a synergistic relationship with K-Life ministries

1.Plan and establish leadership for regular childrens events
2.Lead with volunteers Wednesday evening activities for children
3.Plan special events for children
