The primary goal of the Communications Director is to bring consistency and excellence to all internal and external church communications. Consistency involves clearly and regularly communicating the essential messages of the church leadership. Excellence involves communicating with high professional competence, technical skill, creativity and integrity.
The Communications Director must understand the role of communications in the Church as well as the tasks of communications. The Communications Director, working with staff and ministry teams, is responsible for transferring the churchs vision and mission, events and activities to the congregation and the community through various and appropriate media. Using the Event Process, the Communications Director will lead staff and teams through the Communications Planner to effectively coordinate all church communications.
In relationship to the Communications Team, staff, ministry teams, congregation and community, the Communications Director should demonstrate leadership characteristics: Planner, Visionary, Leader, and Coach
In relationship to the Communications Tasks, the Communications Director should have experience in, able to identify resources of, and be able to build and lead teams around: Writing, Graphic Arts & Design, Editing, Video, Printing, Web
Degree in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing and two to five years experience in related field. Candidates with unrelated educational background will be considered provided he or she has significant related experience.
Strong editing skills
Ability to manage multiple projects
Strong interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships with church staff, ministry leaders, church members, appropriate church vendors, and members of the community
Ability to build, oversee and shepherd teams
Ability to make decisions and initiate change
Computer skills, especially desktop publishing
Familiarity with graphic arts, printing process, video production, other media
Desired spiritual gifts: Leadership and Administration
