Job Description:
The purpose of the Stewardship Department is to obtain the resources necessary to fulfill the vision of Hope Gospel Mission. Functions of the department include: donor development, volunteer coordination and media/community relations. Given the small size of staff and diverse range and amount of tasks of the department, all departmental members need to work as a team. Thus any job descriptions will be flexible given the needs of the team and the Stewardship Director.

This position will work with the Stewardship Director to develop new initiatives and handle daily routines. Creativity and planning are needed skills. Director approval for major initiatives is necessary

*Percentages behind job responsibilities represent estimated time allotted to each area. Time allotment will change from season to season to meet current department needs.

Donor Development (50%)

Partner with Stewardship Director in growing annual fundraising through assisting in creation, implementation, and evaluation of the annual development plan
Assist in writing of monthly receipt letters and donor thank you letters
Write articles/take pictures for the mission newsletter
Coordinate special events such as the Annual Banquet, Miles for the Mission, and other events
Update and maintain website regularly. Develop and implement a website promotion plan to increase hits and online donations
Research and assist in writing grants working with the director and grant writer
Network with community to develop improved community relations
Manage and grow coin canister program.

Volunteer Coordination (40%)

Champion the volunteer program to other departments, the community and volunteers
Build the total number of volunteers active in mission programs to relieve staff labor needs and grow programs
Develop and conduct specific trainings for the new volunteer program
Develop and update volunteer program materials and resources
Coordinate and edit volunteer newsletter
Record, manage and report statistics related to the volunteer program
Obtain grants for volunteer program development
Coordinate annual volunteer picnic
Evaluate volunteer program on an annual basis and update volunteer program plan

Media/Community Relations (10%)

Develop with the Stewardship Director an annual media relations plan and emergency media plan
Write media releases and maintain press kits
Record media exposure in electronic spreadsheet as well as archive print/broadcast pieces on the Mission
Advise Stewardship and Executive Director on media relations


Associate must take ownership in personal training. The area of Stewardship requires frequent, on-going training
The area of Stewardship is a Ministry. Learn and apply ministry skills to donors, volunteers, vendors, staff, and residents
Duties as assigned by Stewardship Director


Dedicated servant of Jesus Christ. Must meet basic qualifications listed in Hope Gospel Mission Employee Manual
Bachelors degree in communication, advertising, public administration, business, or other related degree or significant related experience
Superior writing and editing skills
Comfortable facilitating meetings, speaking in front of groups of people, and speaking on TV or Radio
Team player
Above average ability to learn on the job and self-train
Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe PageMaker, and PhotoShop preferred
