Job Description:
Childrens & Youth Minister
Status: Exempt
Salary: $25,000 to $27,000 / year DOE

Requirements:
Mature in the Christian faith
Experience working with children and / or teens
Degree or classes towards degree in youth ministries preferred
Ability to set priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to work as a team player
Knowledge of or willingness to learn the mission of The Salvation Army
Willingness to learn and work within the policies of The Salvation Army

Specific Responsibilities:

Childrens Ministries:
Direct all Childrens Ministries at The Salvation Army Eastside Corps including but not limited to:
Junior Soldier Classes
Troops or Similar Programs
VBS
Summer Day Camp
Childrens Outreach Programs
Singing Company
Seek out opportunities to engage children in the community and offer meaningful programs.
Recruit and train volunteers to assist with the childrens ministry
Make regular pastoral visits to the parents of the children involved in programming
Develop new programs as needs and opportunities occur


Teen Ministries:
Direct all Teen Ministries at The Salvation Army Eastside Corps including but not limited to:
Weekly teen meetings (YPL)
Coordinate attendance to Youth Councils, WYI and other teen events
Teen Outreach Programs / Events
Seek out opportunities to engage the teens in the community and offer meaningful programs
Make regular pastoral visits to the teens and their parents
Junior Soldier Classes
Troops or Similar Programs
VBS
Summer Day Camp
Childrens Outreach Programs
Singing Company
Seek out opportunities to engage children in the community and offer meaningful programs.
Recruit and train volunteers to assist with the childrens ministry
Make regular pastoral visits to the parents of the children involved in programming
Develop new programs as needs and opportunities occur


Teen Ministries:
Direct all Teen Ministries at The Salvation Army Eastside Corps including but not limited to:
Weekly teen meetings (YPL)
Coordinate attendance to Youth Councils, WYI and other teen events
Teen Outreach Programs / Events
Seek out opportunities to engage the teens in the community and offer meaningful programs
Make regular pastoral visits to the teens and their parents


Seasonal:
Plan and organize annual Easter Egg Hunt
Assist with Thanksgiving and Christmas programs as requested
Assist in the recruitment of children / families to receive Back-To-School supplies
Assist in the recruitment of children to attend summer camp at Camp Arnold

Administrative:
Represent The Salvation Army Eastside Corps at governmental, nonprofit and community meetings that pertain to children/youth programs
Seek to expand the programs offered by The Salvation Army Eastside Corps
Work with the Corps Officers to review policies and procedures on a continuous basis with the goal of making sure programs are being operated in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
Work with Corps Officers to insure that all youth safety procedures are followed
Recruit and train volunteers for the children / teen programs
Recruit and train employees for the Summer Day Camp program
Train employees and volunteers in the children / teen programs regarding Safe From Harm procedures and policies
Assist with the preparation of budgets
Seek out funding for the operation of youth programs
Work under the supervision of the Corps Officers

Goals:
1st year of Employment:
Increase attendance at Corps childrens programs (Childrens Sunday School, Jr. Soldier Classes, Singing Company) by 100% (from our current 4,2,3 respectively)
Increase attendance at YPL and teen Sunday School by 100% (from our current 4 and 2 respectively).
Hold at least one VBS either during spring break or during the summer months attended by at least 25 children from the Corps and community.
Plan and execute at least one children or teen outreach event that targets the unchurched youth in our community.
Recruit enough volunteers for the childrens and teen programs so that all Safe From Harm requirements are met without the use of other paid staff.
Research the greatest needs of children and teens in the communities we serve with the goal of proposing new ways that we can address these problems. At least one proposal should be made or in progress by the end of the 1st year.
