Job Description:
The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC) is a Seminary of the ELCA, training men and women for leadership roles in the church. We are seeking a highly organized, self-directed, and analytical person with strong not-for-profit accounting skills to serve as our Accountant. The Accountant insures the efficient and effective management of the day-to-day operations of the Finance Office to best serve LSTCs mission and ministry. The Accountant is the lead person in preparation and processing the annual financial audits. The Accountants other primary responsibilities are management of the financial information system (including budgeting, reporting, and account reconciliation/analysis), cash receipt processing, and accounting for the endowment and deferred gifts. The Accountant also provides additional support for payroll, accounts payable, student billing/accounts receivable, all other Finance Office operational responsibilities, and special projects as assigned by the Vice President for Finance.

The ideal candidate combines the following:
At minimum, a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and seeking CPA or CMA
A minimum of three years experience in higher education or not-for-profit accounting and/or auditing
Outstanding accounting and computer skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
Experience in Cognos report writer, and CARS Jenzabar software very desirable
The ability to quickly become an internal expert of our financial reporting system
Self-directed with the ability to review and supervise others (within a team approach)
Ability to lead and motivate the Finance Office team and work well with our internal customers
