Job Type: Full-Time
The pastor of CIC is responsible to the LORD and to the people of CIC to faithfully proclaim the word of God through preaching, prayer, worship, ministry purposes, pastoral care ministries, pastoral counseling, and administrative and pastoral leadership.
CIC is a ministry to the English-speaking community in Deajeon, South Korea. The church members are primarily composed of students and teachers working in South Korea as well as English-speaking Koreans. The church meets in the auditorium of Taejon Christian Interntaional School and maintains a church office in the neighborhood. In addition to the salary, the CIC pastor is provided with additional benefits, including airfare from and to home once a year, paid vacation time, housing (with bills paid), a church vehicle, mobile phone, travel allowance, required visas, medical, annuity, and social security. When benefits are added in salary is well over $50,000.
The foundational scripture for a pastor candidate would be I Timothy 3.
CICs pastor needs to be a married man who will be able to relate to the families as well as the singles in the congregation.
CICs pastor needs to be able to clearly articulate his faith, especially in his statement of faith on a resume since we are quite dependent on this information and its trustworthiness.
It was agreed that a CIC pastor needs to have at least 2-3 years experience as a senior pastor before they agree to come overseas to us. We must look at the size of the church and consider that an associate pastor at a larger church may have the same responsibility and experience as a senior pastor at a medium-sized church.
It is central that CICs pastor be a man of the Word. Since the congregation of CIC comes from many different faith backgrounds, we must have the Bible be the central unifying element more than a denominational creed.
Higher level degrees are highly preferable.
A CIC pastor candidate needs to have denominational and doctrinal sensitivity. It is desirable that he respect the differences of opinion enough to engage in healthy debate and honest teaching. He needs to be tolerant of differing views recognizing that we arrive at a central truth and still be able to guide those who are far off the mark.
The wife and home life must be taken into consideration as well.
A CIC pastor needs to have worship and spiritual maturity and be concerned that all lyrical content of music used in worship be connected strongly with scripture.
A CIC pastor should display evidence that he can make strong cultural connections and be able to go out of his comfort zone to draw all people in.
Race is not so much as issue at CIC as much as accent is. Candidates from non-English-speaking backgrounds would not communicate as easily to our congregation.
