The Sparta Evangelical Free Church is located in a growing community in Northwest New Jersey. We are a fellowship of believers with a mission to "grow in Christ while leading others to Christ, and to build the family on the foundations of the Bible." In keeping with that mission, we are committed to minister to the growing needs of our teens and young people. We are seeking a Youth Pastor who demonstrates the power of a Spirit filled life; a man who desires to lead our youth in worship, teach, disciple and shepherd our young people with a vision for future ministry. He will be responsible to develop, implement, coordinate and oversee the Jr. and Sr. High youth ministries of the church.
The applicant must be able to manage his time effectively and possess excellent communication skills. He must have a sense of community as he works with staff and recruits and trains a Youth Ministry Team. We also seek a person who can effectively minister to the parents of teenagers, serving as a resource to aid them as they seek to raise godly children.
Personal - The Pastor of Youth must be a born again Christian whose character is above reproach. He must love, nurture and develop the "flock" by word and deed. It is expected that his relationship with his family, his associates, and his friends honors the Lord. His "leadership style" and demeanor should exemplify servanthood. Some spiritual gifts and personal qualities necessary for this position would include (not limited to): leadership, teaching, administration, and relational in personality.
Education-The Pastor of Youth must have a college degree with a major or minor in Youth Ministry or Christian Education or the equivalent thereof. Further education in his area of emphasis would be preferred. He must have strong desire and an ability to effectively communicate the Word of God.
Ministry Experience- the Pastor of Youth should have demonstrated through previous on the job work experience, an ability and heart felt desire to love, nurture and minister to young people for Christ.
Visionary Leader - Give vision, leadership and direction to the overall Jr. and Sr. High youth ministry. Implementation will include, but not be limited to, developing programs to effectively disciple young people in Christian growth, evangelism, ministries and fellowship, which include:
Planning a wide range of spiritual and social activities to help promote unity as a group, and to keep their interest in the group.
Maintaining a family conscious ministry.
Overseeing and carrying out the administrative activities of the youth, organizing and planning long-range goals and ministries.
Discipling youth, by using the Bible correctly and effectively, to a maturity in Christ and equipping them to assume leadership responsibilities.
Prayer Base - Commit to a daily life of prayer for our youth, lay staff members, and youth ministry as well as implement a plan for developing a broad based prayer support team within the congregation for the entire youth ministry.
Teacher/Discipler - Actively involved in the teaching ministry of the church with primary emphasis on the senior high youth and secondly the junior youth.
Leadership Training and Development - He will be responsible for identifying, recruiting, training and discipling strong adult lay-leadership in the youth programs including adult female leaders to assist in counseling female youth.
Counseling - Meets the individual needs of the young people and their families through an effective relational ministry, providing counsel and spiritual guidance as needed.
Sr. High Ministry Responsibilities
Prepare and overseeing the weekly discipleship meetings.
Organize and oversee once a week fellowship night and at least one social outreach a month
Organize and oversee special retreats
Provide local community service projects and evangelistic outreaches
Lead and direct summer youth mission opportunities and utilize lay-leaders to assist in these projects.
Actively contact youth each week individually for spiritual follow-up so that each young person in the youth ministry is contacted personally.
Jr. High Ministry Responsibilities
Give active oversight to the Jr. High ministry and provide direction and guidance for the Jr. High youth leaders.
He will be responsible for identifying, recruiting, training and discipling strong adult lay-leadership for the Jr. High ministry including adult female leaders to assist in counseling female youth.
Work with the Jr. High youth leaders to develop an effective Jr. High program, which includes:
o Meeting with the leaders on a monthly basis for planning and evaluating
o Provide curriculum and study aids for the leaders
o Attend and assist with special activities and retreats.
