Job Description:

The Communications Director has a vital role in helping to close the gap between the number of active volunteers and the ever-increasing number of international students on our campuses.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Communications Director will set and guide the strategy for all communications: website, video, Facebook, and public relations and marketing messages to consistently articulate IFI’s mission.  The Communications Director will ensure that IFI is communicating clearly and effectively to its key constituent groups of international students and scholars, volunteers, financial partners, and partnering churches. The Communications Director will work closely with the senior leadership and others within the organization on a variety of strategic initiatives.  The position is full-time with an annual base salary of $31,000 that can be supplemented.

  • Work with the Executive Director and others to understand and capture the voice of IFI.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across IFI’s discrete audiences in collaboration with the IFI team and constituents.

  • Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate.

  • Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities.

  • Manage development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic and video collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, and IFI’s website.

  • Mentor and lead volunteers and staff team members responsible for IFI’s website administration and coordination; and video recording and editing

  • Recruiting and mobilizing volunteers, churches, and others who can help IFI with their expertise and experience.

  • Help to create and ensure the IFI Communications Calendar is implemented regularly.

  • Coordinate website content maintenance–ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly.

  • Track and measure the level of engagement within the key constituent groups over time.

  • Work with Director of Strategic Events to assist in the coordination and organization of  annual meetings that engage IFI’s discrete audiences.

  • Consult with IFI regional ministries regarding communication events in their local area.

  • Manage all media contacts.

International Friendships, Inc. is seeking an accomplished Communications Director who has at least 4 years of communications experience, ideally in an “in-house” leadership role within a complex (number and variety of constituents) nonprofit entity, and covering areas such as website content, newsletters, ministry partner communications, and videography. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.

  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies

  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable and experienced using software for managing website content, editing video, and management of communications on social networks.

  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently

  • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to manage and direct the efforts of staff and volunteers, influencing them rather than leading through dictation

  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels

  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters

  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
