Job Description:
Ministry seeks one person for bookkeeping and accounting duties. This is a full time position with health benefits and a salary commensurate with a successful candidate's qualifications and ability to assume responsibilities.

Church Initiative is a church-equipping ministry based in Wake Forest, NC. Church Initiative supports curriculum resources for more than 12,000 churches in the US, Canada and numerous other countries. EOE

Job Purpose:
The bookkeeper at Church Initiative assumes responsibility to process and maintain all financial and accounting transactions for the ministry under the supervision of the Director of Finance. This is a key role that facilitates Church Initiative financial record keeping and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
Receive, evaluate, process and maintain both manual and automated records of all ministry financial transactions using a personal computer, 10 Key calculator, etc. This includes receive, verify, allocate, and post details of business transactions to computer based sales and accounting systems inclusive of General Ledger, Accounts-Receivable; Accounts-Payable; Payroll; Inventory and Fixed Assets computer systems.

Reconcile summary details between split sales and accounting systems.

Track, reconcile and balance cash, credit card, liability, affiliate, royalty and investment accounts.

Coordinating or assisting with the annual budget and financial statement processes; both departmental and ministry wide.

Compile reports using accounting system to show statistics, accounts payable and receivable, profit and loss, and other information pertinent to operations.

Process and evaluate payroll in conjunction with outside payroll service provider.

Prepare, review, and mail monthly customer statements and respond to inquiries.

Receive, evaluate and manage vendor monthly statements and inquiries.

Maintain manual filing systems.

Administer records storage, retention and purge functions.

Supervise periodic and annual physical inventory.

Oversee documentation of receiving and shipping functions.

Serve as a liaison to external auditors.

Additional duties as may be assigned.

Because this position is central to administrative and financial roles in a ministry with national and international visibility it is important that the successful candidate have a strong spiritual background. This includes a professed relationship with Jesus Christ, a consistent and deep personal walk with the Lord, and a demonstrated heart for ministry through the local church evidenced by active membership in a local church.

The position is well suited for individuals who demonstrate excellent responsibility, team spirit, flexibility, personal computer and internet proficiency. This includes but is not limited to proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer and relational database software. Of particular importance is the ability to work independently with attention to detail. Strong organizational, administrative and planning skills are needed, along with effective communication and people skills. Multiple years of bookkeeping/accounting experience preferred along with a degree in related studies. Residence in the greater Raleigh/Wake Forest, NC area is required.
