Job Description:
The Associate Vice President of Human Resources oversees the Human Resources function for the University. This position provides critical thinking and strategic leadership in the growth, development, and management of our people. The AVP of Human Resources will support academic quality and student success through the hiring, and development and retention of high quality, and highly motivated staff, and assist in faculty related issues as requested.

The AVP of Human Resources oversees the human resources, payroll, benefits, payroll and benefit budget development, and implementation and review of governmental regulations functions for the University. He/she is responsible for the continuous, effective operation and improvement of activities in the Human Resources Department which include recruitment and retention of employees, salary and benefits administration, and developing and updating personnel policies that allow Taylor University to achieve its goals. The AVP of Human Resources must also be able to facilitate an environment of teamwork with the HR staff and others within the University community.

The leader of this area must be able to motivate, inspire, and develop the respect of a full range of employees; hourly/non-exempt staff, salaried/exempt employees, faculty, and executive leaders. The successful candidate will be able to move freely between these groups and provide leadership and services, coaching, and mentoring in the context of these various groups.

This position reports to the Vice President for Business and Finance and oversees a staff of five individuals, two primarily in payroll and three primarily in human resources. Specifically, the AVP of Human Resources will be responsible for developing strategies to facilitate the achievement of the Taylor University 'Vision 2016 goals through the human resources function.

The ability to work well with our legal team is necessary to weave the legal requirements into meaningful and effective policies and procedures, and to ensure that the Universitys decisions are consistent with our legal obligations. Familiarity and understanding of computer related systems is required.

The successful candidate should have a masters degree. We will consider a candidate who has achieved a bachelors degree if he/she has significant and relevant experience. Experience in the field of Human Resources is a must, and experience in an academic setting an advantage. Candidates with professional human resources certifications from accredited entities should include a list of these in their resumes.
