Job Description:

We are a team of believers who promote the transformation power of travel. For 25 years, our small, family-owned company has been offering walking tours on all seven continents, listening to the Lord as we look for ways to connect clients with the history, culture, and natural wonders of our world. The underlying mission is to take North Americans off our "American Island" to experience a different way of seeing life, to put people in places where it is more natural to challenge their perceptions of life, and reality, and God, and perhaps be more open to truth, both the concept and the Person. This is not an openly evangelical mission, but one of lifestyle evangelism and of putting people in a place of increased sensitivity and vulnerability, while giving them a great travel experience!

We are looking for an accountant/full-charge bookkeeper to join our small team in Vancouver, Washington, directly across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. The work environment is dynamic due to the service we sell - travel - which is ever-changing! This is a good environment for someone who is flexible and likes to work independently yet contribute in a common team goal.

Our new accountant/bookkeeper needs to have mastered Quickbooks and have a thorough understanding of double-entry bookkeeping - debits and credits. The owner of the company is a former CPA and therefore understands accounting. But the accountant must be someone who can provide monthly reports and perform month end procedures independently, and work with our tax accountant on year end procedures with minimal support.

Much of the tracking of sales and customer participation information is accomplished off-books using Excel and a database program. In addition, banking functions, insurance applications and policies, and other aspects of finance are part of this job description.

Because of the small office environment, opportunities are available to wear multiple hats. Once mastered, the bookkeeping function will likely only require the equivalent of 3-4 days per week, so the bookkeeper may also be involved in marketing projects, tour planning projects, administrative tasks.

The mission of the company is relational, so customer service and managing phones is also part of the job for all staff. Staff also travels on one of our tours every one or two years, on average, as a perc and to better understand the product and the mission. Clientele is mostly repeat customers, and over time, staff develops relationships with much of the clientele.

This is a good position for someone looking for longer term employment. The business model requires long windows of training due to challenge of training team to provide complex travel programs in international locations. Management seeks staff who are vested in the mission and prefer a position that is more than a job.

The position is open immediately and will train with the outgoing bookkeeper for a period of time. We look forward to hearing from qualified and interested applicants!
