General Position Summary:
Cooks are responsible for all food items prepared in the kitchen and assure meals are of excellent quality, ample quantity, served hot and on time. Responsible for maintaining a sanitary Food Service department.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
1.Prepares and preps meals as directed by the food services manager in accordance to established menus.
2.Utilizes the expertise of the advisory cook in regards to meal preparation methods.
3.Prepares meats, vegetables, and other food stuffs. Prepares garnish for cold plates and platters. Slices meats, cheeses, vegetables, other items for sandwiches, or cold platters. Prepares mousses, gelatins, balantines, or gelatin molds for cold platters. Assembles sandwiches, appetizers, cold platters, desserts. Prepares salad dressings, sauces and dips.
4.Informs, instructs and monitors other staff assigned to the kitchen of all duties and compliance with all procedures.
5.Work with dining room staff and other departments to ensure prompt and cheerful service to the guests.
6.Maintain clean and orderly work and food storage areas.
7.Selects and uses knives, hand tools, utensils, and equipment to portion, cut, slice, dip, batter, bread, whip, beat, fry, saute, steam, bake, maintain holding temperatures, chill, freeze, or otherwise produce food in the food service department.
8.Maintains a consistent Christian testimony and actively pursues spiritual growth.
1.Assist Baker as needed.
2.Assist in "satellite" food service operations to other buildings as needed.
3.Assist in the training and monitoring of part-time staff.
4.Aid in practicing good stewardship by developing scratch recipes, creative use of leftovers and low cost items, and preventing waste wherever possible.
5.All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills Required (including education and experience):
1.Degree from a post-secondary culinary arts training program is desirable.
2.A minimum of 2 years in a food preparation position preferred.
3.Able to work well with co-workers.
4.An eye for plate presentation.
5.A Christian in agreement with CBCCs statement of faith and a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
