Job Description:

Job Summary:


The Director of Clinical Services exists to manage, promote, and raise awareness of PHFS and HFT.  Also manages and motivates all staff working with the HFT, which includes motivating clinicians to maintain, or exceed, their pre-assigned levels of productivity and maintain compliance with client files and reporting.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Hires, evaluates, motivates, and otherwise manages all staff in the HFT department
  • Develops new referral sources to obtain increased client referrals
  • Ensures that all client files are complete and in accordance with company and Medicaid standards
  • Ensures that confidentiality of clients is maintained to comply with HIPPA
  • Increases awareness in the communities HFT serves, both about HFT and PHFS
  • Works with the Chief Program Officer to explore and, where plausible, open new offices to meet the needs of underserved communities
  • Develops and presents, within the communities served, classes on subjects such as, but not limited to, parenting, abstinence, and other family related topics
  • Works with court systems, the Department of Social Services, guardians, parents, where applicable, and foster parents to improve the lives of children
  • Provides counseling services to members of the communities served by HFT
  • Participates in developing a budget and maintains the HFT department within the approved budget
  • Ensures all clinicians maintain professional liability insurance
  • Ensures all licensed eligible clinicians receive clinical supervision as required by the state of Virginia
  • Works with the Chief Program Officer in any areas requested as well as working with Trustees as requested
  • Looks for and implements measures to improve the economic outlook/budget of HFT to include, but not limited to, managing the clinicians to maintain, or exceed, their agreed upon levels of productivity
  • Participates with the Chief Program Officer and the Chief Executive Officer, as requested, to raise awareness in PHFS, HFT, and HCC


Non-Essential Job Duties/Tasks:

  • Presents the organization to churches, schools, doctors, lawyers, etc. to increase awareness and sources for referral of clients
  • Meets and works with the Chief Program Officer as requested
  • Meets/works with Trustees as requested


Work Contacts/Employees Supervised:

  • Communicates with:
  • Immediate peers on a daily basis for client billing concerns, requests, or other specific purposes via phone, email, or in person
  • Peers in other departments weekly for Directors' meeting, meetings with Chief Program Officer,  or general collaboration with other departments via phone, email, or in person
  • Immediate director on a monthly or more basis for Directors’ meeting or one-on-one meeting via phone, email, or in person
  • Managers in other departments monthly to discuss budgeting, hiring, marketing, website, or presentations via phone, email, or in person
  • Chief Program Officer/Chief Executive Officer/Trustees on a quarterly or more basis for directors’ meeting or one-on-one meeting or Trustees meeting
  • Customers on a daily basis for counseling, marketing, or resolution, etc. via phone or in person


Decision Making Authority

  • This position manages counseling offices and other community based services- i.e., teaching engagements. This position hires, terminates, motivates, promotes, and meets other needs of all the staff within the department. This position also manages the department budget as well as oversees marketing to raise awareness of the communities served.


  • Direct Supervision Over: Clinicians, full and part-time and department staff


Working Conditions/Physical Effort:

  • This position requires minimal physical effort
  • Includes operation of general office equipment and driving an automobile
  • Primarily office setting/indoors
  • Minimal time engaging with children, which may include lifting, playing ball, or participating in computer games

Required/Preferred Education:

  • Graduate degree in related field - required
  • Licensure [LPC or related] - required


Required Years of Experience:

  • 5+ years clinical experience


Other Requirements:


  • Languages: Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and by written word in the English language


  • Office or other equipment: Normal use and understanding of basic office equipment including the computer and its related software, copiers, and fax machines


  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
