Job Description:
The Los Angeles Mission is a faith-based, Christian nonprofit organization faithfully serving the people of Skid Row section of Los Angeles for over 70 years. The Mission provides compassionate, humanitarian services to those in desperate need.

We are currently seeking a Director of Major Gifts to guide major donor efforts at the Mission and play a leadership role in assuring the goals set forth by Los Angeles Missions Board are achieved.

As a member of the management team, s/he is responsible for implementing a comprehensive annual operating plan aimed at fostering internal and external relationships which support the work of the Los Angeles Mission. The Director will lead a team of major gift officers responsible for the Missions development efforts with individuals, corporations, foundations and estates.

The Director shall implement the fundraising processes necessary to ensure the proper prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors by the major gift team. More than a management position, the Director will have the primary organizational relationship with top priority donors.

The Director of Major Gifts will work with the Director of Development in determining the most effective use of the Presidents time in fundraising, and will work with the President to manage the Presidents relationship with major donors.

To accomplish these goals, the Director of Major Gifts will:

Serve as the chief organizational advocate to Mission leadership to ensure the organization has the resources and budgetary allocations necessary to successfully grow its major gift program.
The Director of Major Gifts will work with the Director of Development and Director of Finance to develop the departments budget, as well as set annual revenue goals by constituency group and major gift officer.
Work with the Director of Development and other key stakeholders to define institutional-wide strategic direction and ensure departmental goals and objectives compliment this direction.
Create opportunities for the Missions ministry staff to participate in development activities.
Manage and coach the team of major gift officers as they implement moves management systems with individual, foundation, and corporate donors. Assist major gift officers in setting and achieving professional and portfolio development goals through trainings and a review process.
Manage a donor portfolio of up to 100 top priority donors.

We seek a self-starter who can build and maintain extraordinary internal and external relationships. Specific qualifications and experience necessary:

Seven years experience in fundraising and a proven record of success in major gifts, including experience soliciting six and seven-figure gifts.
Knowledge of planned giving, special events, and institutional funding.
Management experience, including budgeting and goal-setting.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written & oral communication skills and the ability to multi-task.
Working knowledge of MS Office.
A collegial personality and healthy sense of humor.
A commitment to the work of Los Angeles Mission.
Available to work nights and weekends is a must.
