Position Title: Senior Vice President Administration and Resources


TWU invites applications for a full-time Senior Vice President Administration and Resources position (subject to budget approval). This position will commence on August 15, 2008. Candidates will be reviewed until a suitable candidate is found.

Reporting to the Provost, the Senior Vice President Administration and Resources ["SVP (A+R)"] is a member of the University's senior leadership team. As a member of the University Policy Council ("UPC"), and the President's Cabinet the SVP (A+R) plays a central role in the area of integrated planning and defining and achieving the Institution's strategic directions and priorities.

The SVP (A+R) functions in a highly demanding environment which requires constant scanning for issues and challenges against multiple priorities and demands on limited resources. The workload is significant; the issues are frequently complex; and the decisions required of the individual can be critical to the University.

Duties & Responsibilities:

With reference to governance and accountability, the position enables the President, the Board of Governors, the Provost and the University Policy Council to make timely, informed, responsible, and creative decisions that optimize the generation and use of University resources (financial, physical, and human), manage risk appropriately, and maintain transparency.

With reference to management and administration, the individual participates with the President, Provost, and the other Vice-Presidents in formulating executive decisions and, within and through his or her portfolio, oversees the effective deployment of resources and provision of services in the areas of financial services, facilities management, and human resources, as well as campus safety; consumer services; corporate administration; health, safety and environment; and discrimination and harassment prevention. The individual participates in and facilitates the University's integrated planning process, led by the Provost.

Students are the direct clients for some of the portfolio's services and are ultimately the Institution's primary reason for existence. Therefore it is essential that the SVP (A+R) relate effectively to students and student organizations as well as to faculty and staff. Major responsibilities include participating in the University's planning processes, ensuring strategic and operational plans are in place for reporting units, encouraging best-practices, monitoring performance, promoting positive relations (particularly through strong relationships and partnerships with academic units), and identifying and pursuing business opportunities.

Job Requirements

Education: A relevant advanced degree is highly desirable.

Experience: At least ten years of progressive experience in an academic or competitive business environment. Recent experience at a senior leadership level and demonstrated success in facilitating the achievement of exemplary performance are required.

Institutional Understanding - The demonstrated ability to use knowledge of the University, its people, support systems and structures as a means of achieving results and demonstrating effectiveness within the University environment.
