Working as part of the University Communications team, assists the Media Relations Specialist to gain regular, positive mass media coverage for the University and its programs in support of long-term image building and strategic planning goals. Also, provides project management support for various print and web communications.

Duties & Responsibilities
Assists the public relations team as they work with strategic departments to help implement a coordinated public information and media relations plan to target media groupings that supports strategic needs.

Assists with the cultivation of media relationships specifically with Christian and local Fraser Valley media to promote understanding, interest and ultimately regular exposure. Does this under the informal supervision of media relations specialist, who is responsible for relationships with high profile daily and national mainstream and business media.

Coordinates event publicity as it relates to the news media and website event listings. Helps improve the effectiveness of University event publicity, including on-going Presidents office, development, campaign, alumni relations, student recruitment and faculty events.

Writes, and assists with placement of general TWU feature stories and media releases on University, faculty and student achievements, major gift and scholarship stories, etc., in addition to other required media and public information materials.

Responsible for helping develop and manage a "star" faculty/staff experts list.

Coordinates and implements an effective, home-town media release program.

Coordinates general media monitoring and assists with inquiry management.

Coordinates the preparation of regular reports on media coverage.

Provides project management support for various print and web communications.

Responsible for acting in a manner that exemplifies Jesus Christ in all on and off campus contacts thereby living out the mission of the university.

Responsible for researching current stories and generating story leads.

-2-3 years experience required in public relations, journalism or media related support role
- Experience writing for publications is an asset.

Skills & Abilities:
Proven news, media writing and photography skills. Ability to work with university directors and managers to help coordinate, plan and implement effective communications to gain media exposure. Strong interpersonal skills related to building positive relationships with media contacts. Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage muiltiple tasks and projects.
