Job Description:



The Facility Maintenance Technician provides ongoing day-to-day maintenance, makes repairs, and uses expertise to problem solve issues in all designated physical plant assets. They must complete assigned work orders, preventative maintenance, and provide assistance and expertise for small projects. They must be able to assist and supervise contractors and vendors. They are required to respond to and perform after-hour emergency repairs. Specific technical requirements include knowledge of and experience in:

  • Construction, carpentry, masonry, appliances, and general building maintenance including but not limited to repairing doors, windows, and roofs.
  • Electrical maintenance to include but not limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, clocks, etc.).
  • Plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, and removal/replacement of toilets, etc.).
  • Skillfully operating a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drill presses, and various hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance work.

An ideal candidate uses their experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, but knows when to ask questions. They must be self-motivated. They must be both a team player and able to work independently without supervision to manage maintenance repairs along with providing insight to larger projects. They must have reasoning skills sufficient to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Reports to the Facility Manager.




  • Performs all tasks in a manner that supports and advances the mission of the college.
  • Maintains a professional courteous manner with all staff, faculty, residents, vendors, contractors, and fellow employees.
  • Responds to assigned maintenance requests and repair work orders in a timely manner; accesses work order requests accurately; estimates cost of labor and materials; determines size of repair/project; communicates problems or concerns with Facility Manager; obtains competitive prices for equipment and supplies when necessary.
  • Observes and monitors general condition and appearance of all physical plant assets (with the only exception being HVAC equipment), proactively keeping them in excellent functional and aesthetic order. Determines and completes preventative maintenance work and schedules. Creates work orders as is necessary.
  • Prioritizes, schedules, and reviews work. Meets schedules and follows time lines.
  • Maintains records related to labor, materials, and work orders. Follows work order system.
  • Interprets blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in a safe, clean, and proper working condition.
  • Installs, services, replaces and repairs the following items in a responsible and professional manner that meets industry standards. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Wall molding
  • Caulking
  • Countertops and cabinets
  • Window screens and blinds
  • Interior and exterior doors
  • Electrical circuits, receptacles, breakers, switches, ballasts, and fuses
  • Light fixtures
  • Appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators, washers and dryers
  • Vehicle safety inspection  
  • Toilets, sinks, vanities and disposals
  • Snow removal
  • Stair treads and cove basing
  • Fencing
  • Gutters, down spouts and connecting hoses
  • Minor drywall damages 
  • Clearing drains and sewer lines up to 4"

External:  Contractors, vendors, parents, patrons, trustees, donors, and citizens.

  • Must be able to enthusiastically subscribe to the College’s Statement of Faith.
  • Must have knowledge of and experience in facilities maintenance; be mechanically inclined with a strong understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry; have reasoning skills sufficient to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Computer literate; experience using email, MS Word, and MS Excel needed.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be a team player and able to work well with others.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (i.e., no moving violations within the past 24 months) are required.
  • Must have impeccable work record, work ethic, and personal and professional references.
  • Full range of motion; ability to see clearly (with corrective lenses, if necessary) at close range and long distances; ability to hear and discern human speech, and other sounds and noises; ability to smell, detect, and discern odors; ability to repetitively lift and carry 50 pounds; ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; ability to work extended hours and shifts.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Work Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm.  The Maintenance Technician is responsible for weekend and after-hours calls regarding priority repairs.



Hourly, non-exempt.

Essential Personnel - On-Call beyond normal business calls.
