Job Description:
As an Upper School (US) Spanish Teacher, you will join a team of teachers who support and implement the Mission Statement for World Languages (found below). This full-time teaching position will involve instructing Spanish level 1 to Honors 4 to students in 9th-12th grade under the supervision of the Upper School Head. Native speaker is preferred but not required. Extensive knowledge of Spanish grammar is required.

Spanish 1, 2 & 3 Course Description
The primary objectives of the Spanish 1, 2 & 3 programs are to help students develop linguistic proficiency, cultural sensitivity and a solid understanding of the Spanish grammar. By interweaving language and culture, the programs seeks to broaden students communication skills while at the same time deepening their appreciation of other cultures.

The program strives to cultivate students proficiency in the Spanish language through the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The program is an integration of thematically related video, audio and text activities leading to complete language development. The goal of the program is to provide students with the confidence to express them selves in the Spanish language. Activities progress from controlled to open-ended practice where students are able to express themselves in meaningful communication.

Spanish 4 (Grade 12)
The primary objectives of the Level 4 Spanish language program are to enhance the language skills of talented, motivated students who have met the language requirements and wish to continue their study of Spanish at an advanced level. This course refines grammatical skills and introduces critical analysis of literature and film. Preparation for SAT II tests (Subject Tests are designed by the College Board to measure students knowledge and skills in particular subject areas, as well as their ability to apply that knowledge) is an integral part of the curriculum with intensive review of grammar through writing practice. A good knowledge of basic Spanish grammar is a prerequisite. Conducted entirely in Spanish, the course will study selected grammatical difficulties of the Spanish language, literature combine with the film component. This class is conducted exclusively in Spanish.

Mission Statement for World Languages
By achieving the advanced proficiency level (spoken and written) in the target language, learning about the distinctive national cultures embedded in the language, and better understanding the distinctiveness of American culture, the modern language student will be equipped to engage another culture with the sympathy and understanding befitting an ambassador of Christ.
