POSITION SUMMARY: Grounds Supervisor

 

Provides ongoing grounds maintenance to the campus maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, providing high quality services levels, supervising and coaching part-time student employees, maintaining equipment and irrigation system, ensuring a safe work environment. Removes snow to ensure campus safety. Solicits bids for grounds related projects. Works with vendors and subcontractors. Assists in development of grounds budget. Applies herbicides.

 

Responsibilities include: recruiting, training, and supervising employees; managing and maintaining the condition and appearance of the grounds; keeping detailed records of employees, plantings and equipment, maintaining equipment; maintaining supply levels; maintaining irrigations system; removing snow; working with contractors; personally participate in all grounds activities.

 

An ideal candidate can perform skilled grounds maintenance, irrigation maintenance, and equipment repairs. They use their experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, but know when to ask questions. They must be self-motivated. They must be both a team player and able to work independently without supervision. They must have reasoning skills sufficient to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

 

Requirements: Three years previous demonstrable full-time work experience in grounds maintenance; supervisor experience directly related to this job is preferred; pesticide license preferred or the ability to obtain one. The ability to perform labor intensive work within difficult environmental conditions to include frequent lifting, pulling and pushing of 50 lbs.
